ok wile i was sanding away on my secret project, I was thinking what was the common reason why people dont join up. the answer, then hit me as I cut my thumb and bled all over the air compressor hose. "but there are so many people with so much power whats the point Ill never get ahead." my solution was simple, to get a bandaid and go get a few stitches, oh wait Im talking about recruting...back on track now... we have a select group of people who are willing to donate a machine to crack blocks for newbies, if there willing to accept and stay on the team we will save and flush blocks to their account to try and give them a boost, save them up in a pproxy for 10 or so days and then woosh! and to make sure they arnt imposters just looking for extra blocks we have a set of guidlines which for security reasons I am not going to post in an open thread. I think that this would greatly spark interest in DC giving the new guy a leg up.

so what do you think.

PS design phase of store is underway. no promises just a really cool looking webpage with help from wellcky and my mad VB skillz. (and a few modifications).

I think one of the reasons why people don't join so readily is that setting up the clients can be a hastle, until you know them in and out. This is part of the reason why the Borg were so successful - not only becaues of Dennil, but because setting it up with the borg disk was basically, click 'n forget.

that is the advantage of miniteams.. you dont really need to customize at all. no need for individual e-mail addresses, etc., and you could create a downloadable pre-configured client..

what we need is a "newbie miniteam".. (of course eventually they wouldnt be newbies, but.. )

"a newbie miniteam..." Interesting.

Perhaps an externally accessible (through firewalls, etc.) proxy server with ppstats running could be setup specifically for newbies. An installation disk could be designed to properly configure their setups to access this machine, they could view their newbie stats on their own proxy server (as well as on Dnet, should they so choose)...simplicity in itself! Once they gain some experience, they could then "leave the nest" and become solo operators or join a mini-team.

Such an easy setup might prove enticing to those who aren't interested (at least initially) in setting up the Dnet client.

We've always said it'll be that "Newbie" with the i486 that cracks the key.

hmm, a few thoughs on the "Newbie Miniteam"

- Gets people cracking for TA quicker
- we could call it "TA Spawning Pool"
or maybe "TeamAnandtech Tadpoles!"
- We would always know who the newcomers are from the Newbie Proxy
- the newbie miniteam email will be ta-cannibalcows@ragingbull.com

j/k on the last one but i think this is a great idea.

Adul i think your kinda missing the point, what we are going for is a miniteam just to get people cracking, then as they learn more about TA and what not, then they can decide to move onto crack for themselves, or for another miniteam, the newbie miniteam is meant to be like a welcoming area, for people to get started, not a permanent place to be.

but on a side note a gamers miniteam would be a good idea too, we could pull some peopl in from the Software/Games forum

I wrote a windows interface for an ini file for the last company I worked for, that would make it easy for the newbies to get off of that team and on to another team or cracking for themselves. I know a lot of people would rather have a nice windows interface than mess with an ini file or go through the dnetc config screens. I am sure I could do a VB interface for the dnetc ini file. That might help too. Throw that in with the distro disk and let them install the interface as an option.

dont reinvent the wheel, Aduls bro made a web based ini configuratoe in ASP, very similar to VB, perhaps we should code this proffesionaly, keep the logic in a module, then have two interfaces, one in ASP/HTML the other in VB Forms, That way when dnet changes anything we only need to mod one part, not all 3

That makes sense to me. If you guys need me to do any VB interface work or whatever, let me know. Email or PM me and I will work on it.

I am all for almost anything that will help the team grow, and making things less intimidating to newbies might help.
