Ive been looking around and i decided to get a 1.6a system. Im on a tight budget and this is what i decided on because it has such a great price performence ratio. This is all from newegg.com the only thing i am keeping is the cd drive from my old system. Would the 2100 ram be limiting my overclock or would this motherboard have the cpu/mem option? I want to get at least in the 2.6ghz range. Any other better motherboard options under the $100 price range and has audio and lan? Please send in your suggestions Thanks

it should be fine...but 2.6 might be pushing it with pc2100...i think you would get 2.4 with no prob
btw...where are you getting the thermaltake volcano 7 at? i thought that model doesn't have variable fan controller...is that a 7+ or a 7? if it is a 7+ then that is a hellva a deal
you can get the AC3 from SVCompucycle for $5 free shipping maybe tax...
newegg will rape you with shipping if you are only getting a few items...but you are getting everything thur them...it's pretty good deal

Overclocking is a crap shoot...no guarantees and 2.6 ghz from a 1.6A is an excellent overclock and may not be a realistic expectation

Pretty good setup. The BD7 does have the 3:4 option. Spend a little extra for some PC2700 Samsung. Ditch the TT HS/Fan. The retail is fine. Try for 150 FSB, 2.4 GHz, DDR400. You need the better ram to do this.

SupermanCK The regular Volcano 7 does have a fan controller and the $19 is from new egg. The volcano 7+ is just to expensive i wish it was that cheap.

BTW, dont have hopes for a 2.6 overclock when the whole system you put together is the cheapest stuff you could find.

Reliability is the #1 trhing that i think of when i guy a system.

1) Antec true 440PSU, or you MIGHt getaway with the 300watt version depending on how many devices you have.

2) WD 7200/ata-100 might be a better choice. its hardly any more then the segate that you have. segate makes great scsi drive, but just normal/crappy ide drives.

Other then that i agree with sticking with the stock cooler and getting the samsung 2700 ram. if you come across more cash later get the alpha else where. they are anywhere from $30-40 depending on where you go.

Don't exect the 2.6Ghz too much
out of 5 or 6 P4 1.6A I have used to build systems for meself and friends, they mostly max out around 2.4Ghz

I am running 2.4Ghz now on the BD-7 RAID

Get PC2700 RAM, You'll need it for overclocking.
I am using KingsMax for a little extra milage, Samsung should be OK anyway.

With the BD-7, you'll probably get code 26 boot problem when you overclock over 1.9Ghz. This is a common "bug" or problem. Go to ABIT site and download the new BETA BIOS. It'll allow Vcore of up to 1.7V instead of just 1.625V. It'll also solve the boot code 26 problem.

Before the BETA BIOS, I was really disappointed that I can only o/c to 1.8x Ghz...but now I am fully running at 2.4Ghz.

Just to add
you may consider the ASUS P4S333 or even P4S533
I have built a few computers using these 2 boards

they also kick ass and can overclock just as well as the ABIT board
I don't use it myself becoz I bought the BD7 before I took noticed at these 2 boards, plus I needed the RAID, and I am an ABIT fan.

The SIS645 and 645DX chipset will definately give you better performance than the i845D.

I just bought a MSI 845G Max board using the new i845G chipset. This computer I am building for another friend. I only have just set it up and installed Windows. Will inform of its overclockability later over at the motherboards section. I already wrote something there for this board anyway.
