Rig is in sig, had some questions on OC'n. Mind you I've never OC'd anything in my life so I'm a completely new to it. If there's a guide somewhere I could read about the OC'n on my chip, ram, and video card please let me know so I won't waste your time.

The bus on the i7 860 shows 1366 so my question was what would be the benefit of OC'n the ram to 1600 8-8-8-24?

For a gaming and graphic design rig, should I even bother OC'n anything or is the system on auto settings in the bios fine for what I have?

I do want to learn about OC'n on all entry levels (chip, ram, gpu) but I'm wondering if I tinker to much will I hurt myself more then help.

If you want stable and easy, don't mess with it. Just leave a good thing well enough alone.

If you want to try futzing with OCing, you may get a higher clock speed and marginally better real-world performance out of it, but it can be a very annoying process that often isn't worth the effort if you just want it to work.

If you DO want to learn, go in baby steps. Crank it up a bit, test it, repeat. Eventually it won't boot, learn how to reset your BIOS before that happens, then go to the last good settings and test more thoroughly.

There is little or no gain from improving memory speed on Bloomfiel/Lynfield. The on-die memory controller makes it allready quite sufficient. Low latencie is really what you want for nehalem.

Lynnfields biggest advantage is its Turbo. When using more cores turbo becomes less important. So if you are using multi-threaded applications OC'ing becomes more and more benificial.

OC guides for Lynnfield are available in this forum. Stick with them and you probably won't mess up.
