The title says, "Giving Russia Edge Over U.S. In Skies"

This is old news really as I heard about this crap before several years ago.

A top U.S. military aviation official, who spoke anonymously to the National Interest, seconded Deptula’s opinion.
“Performance-wise it certainly looks to compete with the Raptor,” the official told the magazine.
While the new Russian stealth fighter is said to be less “stealthy,” that is, able to evade radar detection, than its U.S. counterparts, it makes up for that slight disadvantage with its incredible maneuverability in the skies that experts say is at least on par with the Raptor and far exceeds the Lightning II.
But the U.S. fighters still hold one advantage — data technology. The U.S. fighter jets still have better “sensor and data fusion,” in other words, technology for processing information about the jet fighter’s surroundings and feeding it to the pilot in a way that lets him make quick decisions.

This comment sums it up.

This article is BS. The PAK T-50 is in prototype stage and it'll be years before Russia can manufacture them in any numbers. The U.S. already has two 6th generation fighter programs in early development stage and will have thousands of 5th generation fighters F35 and F22 in the air before Russia can build theirs in volume. In 'theory' perhaps the T-50 can outmaneuver the F22 but considering they've only built 4 prototypes there's no telling what a final mass produced model would be capable of. According to the Indian press they are none too happy with the PAK claiming it is not reaching benchmarks or living up to its hype.

What we have at Area-51 is probably 7th or 8th generation bitches! All I can say is that the F-22 is far more capable of what the plane can do, but with the pilot the computer limits the maneuverability so the G forces don't kill him/her.

What's to discuss? A prototype? They have made 6 and hope to have them ready in 2 years. Too much changes in that time for this to be interesting. I'd be far more interested to see what drone technology they have lined up.

Let's just say even India wants to bail on the joint fighter development project becuz Russia is not transfering tech that were part of the deal.

Also th prototypes are probably tested without weapon load.

They always do that shit. When comparing the Su-35 with the raptor in thrust-to-weight, take off and acceleration, it's always an unladen Su-35 with 50%-25% fuel and no weapons to an F-22 with full internal weapons load and fuel. Then they show off their incredible climb rate and gloat about how inferior the F-22 is.

Link? Technology transfer is probably what India needs most right now.

Manned fighter craft are obsolete. If the ruskies wanna waste money for geriatric pilot toys more power to them. The french rebate checks for their Mistral ships is in the mail.

also, strength in numbers. cool to have the latest toy but 10 prototypes vs 3000 well oiled death machines doesn't win you the war.

The human becomes the bottleneck (due to G forces) in aircraft maneuverability. Future aircraft should be built where it can be unmanned, removing the need to limit things.

It is rumored within the next 10 or so years the military will be mostly robotic/drone in nature.

The US sixth generation fighter program is set to be manned or unmanned depending on the mission, as well as provide an artificial intelligence to help with data management and such.

The US military has a strong financial incentive to sound worried about anything any other country develops. If Burkina Faso slapped wings and a couple of BB guns onto an ice cream truck the Pentagon would start talking about a BB gap and ask congress for more money to counter it.

The Russian one has to use after burners to even stay in the air with no ordinance from what I'd read.

Not a lot to worry about there.

lulz I don't think their plane is THAT bad.

Nope. Not to mention it is still a prototype. You know Americans are starting to fail when they use Burkina Faso in the same sentence as Russian military hardware.

Was going to say this exact same shit. Was just too lazy. Current generation AI software is too weak and my guess is that piloted aircraft will be able to outfight them right now. Besides you can just add the same AI technology package to the piloted aircraft and gain all the same benefits. The pilot can just turn it on and off as he wants to with his flatscreen display.
