New SandForce Firmware...does it work?

Has anyone been able to test out the new firmware for the Sandforce drives? If so, have you noticed any worthwhile improvement to get SF vice Marvell?

Wouldn't that be impossible to say at this point ?
It needs to be tested a few weeks before issues start to show up.

Well as many issues as Sandforce has had, even them putting out a band-aid should be able to improve an amputated leg

same could be said for Intel's drivers.

although, that's more of a band-aid for an amputated finger. Sandforce was just forced(read as .. "PAYED") to keep hacking at their leg until they finally figured out that the finger was actually the issue. lol

It is working for me so far. Jury is still out to see if it is a real fix. I was to the point that my system was getting a BSOD 4 or 5 times a day with a Vertex 3 Max I/O 128gb. I finally pulled the Vertex 3 and copied my drive with Acronis TI to my old Vertex 2 LE and had no problems.

I installed the FW on the Vertex 3 last night and ran for about 4 hours and today the system has been up for 6 hours without a freeze or BSOD. This is an improvement over where it was.

Only time will tell if this is real fix.

At least it is showing improvement vice the old FW.

As you said though, only time will tell if it fixes the issue W/O bringing about new issues.

Mine is stable so far. But then again after much fudging around, I have had my OCZ drive stable for the last couple of releases. What gets me though is how much time OCZ's support reps have spent in their support forums pointing the finger at Intel as the source of the problem and going to great lengths to explain that it couldn't be fixed with a firmware update. It was Intel's fault.

Now suddenly we have the magic firmware update?????

I have had my Vertex 3 Max I/O 128GB since May and had no problems of any kind until about a month ago. Nothing was changed on the system. System starting BSOD with no dump file created, started looking for causes and narrowed it down to the V3. Installed my old V2 LE with a copy of the system from the V3 and the BSOD stopped immediately. Nothing else was changed. I kept up with the OCZ forum and all the hoops they were asking people to do to try and get the drives to works was unreal. I fully expect to be able to insert a SSD into a system and have it work just like any HDD would.

Sure hope the new FW works!

Interesting that the new FW comes out after recent price drops. If they got a stable FW out, I bet the prices would have remained higher longer.

And could they have released it last month without these fixes?
