Hell, if the card was clocked at 340\490, and it was guaranteed to work flawlessly, I would take it, no questions asked. All I want is a working card. You guys have NO IDEA how frustrated I am with this whole thing, and I JUST F*CKING WANT THIS WHOLE DAMN SITUATION TO END!!

So then the temps on this card are above normal as well and you already put the NV5 on this one you just got ??

Dude what the hell is wrong with you ??? When ever the temps rose, why didnt you just leave the card alone (not void the warranty) and cll the XFX RMA up again ??...

I'm pretty sure you guys are on a first name basis:heart:

I can't.

We can't all reach your lofty heights of the infamous "How I weaseled 20% more fillrate out of my cheesy 9500NP" post Creig- cut us nooBs some slack!

Good stuff Creig, people on a fixed income who don't want to buy a real 9700 for $150 owe you a debt of gratitude!

Dude back off a bit. You really have no idea what is going on. I admit it does look like he is ripping XFX off, but give him the benefit of the doubt. He gave possible explanations for everything, though unlikely. All he wanted to know was if there was a new fab process for the 6800gt. You need to to stop becoming the forum policeman when no one wants you there and you just go around making accousations when you don't know the whole story. Maybe you should back off of others imperfections until you have worked out all your own. All you are doing, despite noble itentions (I would hope) is annoy others who have legitimate questions.

You don't have to start making cheap shots at everyone because they are more forgiving than you. Do you have something against cheap cards and people who want some more performance out of them. I am sure I appear to be a real loser since I could only afford a $60 9200SE.

look rollo, you are very intelligent and have posted some helpful things, but that is mixed in with all the other persecution crap you throw in. All I want is that you try to answer a question, rather than drag it into a 3 page flamewar with no answer to the original question.

omg rollo all you do is "F"in flame on these forums. that is a good thread; not everyone can afford an "Asus X800XT PE" like you can so maybe they got a 9500 and want some more performance. just seriously go....somewhere else because no one appreicates your stupid sarcastic comments. whenever you post somewhere some kind of flamewar arises.
peace,

Anyways is the 6800gt new and improved? I have heard this nowhere else, but improvements are always nice.

In fact, I am NOT OVERCLOCKING ANYTHING in my system. Also, this is only the second card that I have had from XFX clocked at these speeds (the 2 cards have the same BIOS rev). I have had cards from XFX with the following speeds:

350\500 - the first 6800GT that died about 2 months after I got it
370\500 - the second 6800GT that was dead when I got it
374\535 - the last 2 cards I got, the first was good for about two and a half weeks, and the other, I'm using.

Don't accuse me of something unless you know your facts, Rollo, which you didn't.

I guess you have nothing to worry about with XFX then do you Geforcetony? I'm sure they'll know about the cards being factory OCd, and won't mind that you put a Silencer on it. (perhaps incorrectly, given the "luck' you're having)

Of course, my XFX 6800GT cam e at 350/500 like everyone else's I've ever heard of, so what do I know?

No problem Geforcetony, I copied your original post wherein you describe taking the HSFs off and on, and have your clock speed, so I'm sure you're all set to go with XFX now.

LOL. That rollo.. always kicking someones ass all over the place.

I think what he's doing takes BALLS, almost oversized cancerous ones!
I'm not that mean..

that looks a bit like photoshop, but he DOES have a custom theme installed. on one side, rollo, you arent the XFX police...but he really dosn't have anything to worry about unless he's done something wrong.
anyone who bought an XFX card must be half stupid anyway, because there is more then one post on this forum about how horrible XFX's support is, bad quality control, etc.

we should have a real or rendered thread in OT to settle this

LOL@ that pic.

my vote: not real.

i think this guy is "smart" enough to use a custom theme to help disguise it.

seriously, hes crafty.. has been thus far.
but theres a strong possibility hes telling the truth.. considering he surely knows if XFX sees this thread, THEY will know whether he doctored those pics or not.

modding the video bios causes coolbits to think the desired speed is default, you stole 4 video cards by VIOLATING THE WARRENTY, then changing the stock cooling back before sending them to XFX for RMA.'

You knew exactly what you did, stop playing stupid.

I know, I kind of was too. Anyway, if you want to get specific about clock speeds, I call it 374MHz because that's what it shows up as in the NVIDIA control panel. Here's what RivaTuner says:

$ffffffffff ---------------------------------------------------
$ffffffffff NVIDIA specific display adapter information
$ffffffffff ---------------------------------------------------
$0100000000 Graphics core : NV40 revision A1 (16x1,6vp)
$0100000001 Hardwired ID : 0045 (ROM strapped to 0045)
$0100000002 Memory bus : 256-bit
$0100000003 Memory type : DDR (RAM configuration 07)
$0100000004 Memory amount : 262144KB
$0100000005 Core clock : 374.537MHz
$0100000006 Memory clock : 535.000MHz (1070.000MHz effecti...
$0100000007 Reference clock : 27.000MHz
$010000000b HW masked units : none

So, you could TECHNICALLY call it 375\535, but I am only going off the NVIDIA control panel.

meh im sure XFX were short changing people with 900mhz memory at one point, i remember the thread not long ago, thats a 85mhz OC for XFX

I told XFX this, and they said that they would send me a new card, and then, once I got it, I would send the defective card back. The reason for this is that I HAVE to have my computer for work, and already lost out on $150 or so because of these problems. By the way, Rollo, YES, I did send the defective card back already (today as a matter of fact), so you can't bitch at me about trying to get a free card.

The same thing happened to my BFG 6800 ultra but it turned out to be Coolbits causing the problem. After uninstalling coolbits, the card runs perfectly fine! Dont be so quick to install "performance gaining" software and run the card the way it is intended to run with nvidia released drivers. If all goes well, then install any unoffical nvidia performance enabling software. That's how I knew it was software related and not a defective card. I bet the card you mention above wasnt even defective, it was YOU installing coolbits. Problem solved! You're the one at fault and not XFX!

Jeeeezus Christ guys.

Look XFX cant do anything about him now, theyve effectively given him extra 6800GTs for no reason, and now theyve done it theyve condoned his actions.

But come on IF they guy has done what you guys think, what are you able to do about it, XFX are stupid and should have realised this.... OR hes telling the truth and XFX noticed that they were wrong when they got the defective cards and replaced it for it.

For me my 2nd assumption is probably more correct.

So guys LAY OFF HIM. It can happen to anyone, so either his a sneaky bastard or hes telling the truth either way nothing can be done about it. And Rollo sending off those texts of this forum to XFX, err what are they gonna do about it, do you work for them so they can certify its the truth or what. Your actions will have no affect. Simple as that, they wont listen to you, because they have no concrete evidence on this guy if he has done anything wrong at all!

And anyone, not to blabber, i think a big company like XFX would probably have said something if the 6800GTs this guy has if they were defective and caused by him.

What I would like to know, is how that CoolBits screenshot looks like PhotoShop, but nobody will have the balls to say why, just accuse, accuse, accuse.

************************************************************************************************************
Anyway. Back to the original topic.

I ran some tests with that "Step into Liquid" video, and my CPU usage hovers between 60-65%, and my GPU temps DID rise from 51c to 62c while playing the video about 5 times. This doesn't jibe with previous reports of nearly 100% CPU usage and no GPU temp rise at all. So, I wonder if NVIDIA has done something to the GPU to fix the broken PureVideo. Who knows...

Drayvn you have not been here long. Many of us have been here for years (Myself included) and have seen this. YOu can imagine our skepticism, as not every day someone has 4 defective cards in a row, mentions NVSilencer etc.

Nothing personal on the guy but we have seen things like this before and we are skeptical.

well you fail to mention that it could not only be a simple bios tweak.. but since you cut off the rest of the screen.. i dont see there couldnt be rivatuner or a powerstrip clocking it up.. doesnt necessarily have to be bios or coolbits.
and if you present a shot with the full screen, theres ways to hide app icons/start menu apps easily.

im not trying to be hard on you, but i am one who doesnt believe this story.. esp with the first post being edited.

I didn't think having an entire 1600x1200 screenshot would make a difference, so that's the reason why I only took the CoolBits part. If that's what is making people suspicious, then I can take a shot of my entire screen. I just don't see why it is nesisarry.

Nick-
I honestly don't care what card people have, I'm only taking a cheap shot at Creigs because he follows me around from thread to thread like a stalker taking potshots at me.

What would you have me do? Post "Hahaha Creig- that's funny! I can't remember ever having said anything relevant either"?

Why would I do that? Do I have "Creig's Bee-otch" stencilled on my forehead? Not last I checked.

You need to consider both sides of the situation. If we can agree that Creig showing up and posting that he can't remember me saying anything relevant is a flame at me, we only disagree on the response to flames.
