something about this is kinda disturbing

do you have any pictures of this chip difference? i guess it's hard to tell the difference between the two then... if you're eye could see it, i think a picture might be able to pick up the gist of it. <3 pictures

oh yeah, and having 4 cards die on you cannot be a coincidence :\

I wouldnt do that, you could get the mods on a bad day and get a ban.

The whole reason I started this thread was to get feedback about the broken VP, and if anyone had any idea if this particular spin of the chip (apparently from TSMC) had fixed anything at all.

I feel insulted that it's been suggested that I'm not a real person.

And I got off the phone with www.buyxg.com a while ago, my new card isn't going to show up until sometime next week. Punks I sent it back because the fan sounded like it was going to die, and for no other reason. The card was working beautifully, but it should NOT be making sounds like that. I have 2 air cooled rigs, nutzoid every fan I can mount kind of air cooled rigs, and I distinctly heard the 6800GT over both of the drones. That's how bad it was.

But yeah, Tony's been having his problems. He's not OCing, he's not trying to get the 'perfect card', he's just trying to get one that works. He wants to be able to watch his brains get splattered on the wall at the highest resolution and with the highest graphical settings he can possibly swing tomorrow night. Although I might not be doing so much of the splattering based on my performance in CS:S while I was trying random pub servers this afternoon.

We'll have to do the testy mobobber with this decode junkzor when my new Leadtek gets here Tony. You'll have to remind me though, I'll forget about it otherwise See you in class tomorrow morning chucklehead.

I originally thought it may have been the drivers, so I reverted to the 67.03s and there was still no change. Besides, I've never heard of a driver killing a videocard.

Also, after telling XFX my problem (I have their working tech support number and their RMA dept. number on speed dial on my cell phone, and yeah I know, its pathetic ). They shipped me a new card via next day UPS. That was surprising to me, and I didn't expect it at all.

Can you read? I never stated he took the HSF off the 1st or the 2nd just two of them. If the fourth dies and he has to RMA he's not going to say he tampered with it. Perhaps you should read a bit better before trying to bash me.

[/quote]

Secondly he said that the difference he noticed was between the last 2. Where does he say he knows the first 2 were of a certain rev or that he took the hsf off....He bought the NV5 to fix the overheating of the 3rd. The 2nd was DOA. so only the 3rd and the 4th appeared to be the ones he took the top off....I can read how about you???

Ok the fact that 4 video cards in a row is suprising enough. But now you are saying they shipped it via next day shipping... come on now. THe company would not do that.

Adittionally those drivers were compiled/released on January 10 as per my Drivers thread. Do you realize how fast all of this would have had to happen??

Here's a copy from the: NZONE Beta 67.66 Page

ForceWare Release 65
Version: 67.66
Release Date: January 18, 2005
BETA Driver

This is the day I got them, installed them, and tested the VP with the (then working) video card. On the 19th, I had problems with the card. The 20th, I called XFX. The 21st, I received the new card via next day shipping.

EDIT: Also, I started this thread on the 26th, the same day that I decided to put the NV silencer on the card. I kept the old one until I knew for sure that the new one worked (XFX even suggested I do this, which would save them time and money), and yesterday I sent back the old card after I was pretty sure that the new one was working correctly (for now at least).

I don't see why I have to keep proving myself to you guys. Why can't you take the benefit of the doubt, and believe me for once. Everything I have said on this thread, I have backed up with evidence (coolbits, stuff about the broken cards, etc) and all you do is nag on me about how much BS I'm feeding everyone. For once, cut some slack, and give others a break. I'm not stupid. I am a programmer, I'm A+ Certified, and already have a ticket to DeVry, where I will be studying to become a game programmer. I may be young, but I've been doing this whole computer thing since I was 7 (with an old 286 that I royally screwed up because I didn't know sh*t about computers).

Well this is becoming unbelievable. In fact those drivers were released earlier than that on other websites. The fact that you got it even later is even more disturbing. Companies dont just send RMA's via next day delivery especially on the 4th card. Also your RMA request was processed all that day with no questions asked?

Forgive my skepticism but you are coming across as a bit unbelievable now.

Edit: Ill bet if you tell them that you were using 3rd party cooling they would not accept the RMA

Yes, I called them at about quarter to 11 in the morning (in fact, it was between classes, as I had all of the previous RMA numbers and the serial number of the card written down). I was extremely upset (as you might imagine) that I had to RMA again, and I told them that. They appologized, and they said they would get the card out that same day, as it was before their shipments go out in the morning anyway. Needless to say, they obviously did get the card out that same day, and the next day, at about 5PM, I received the new card.

Once again, I don't see why I need to keep proving myself to everyone as I am already providing enough evidence of my claims as it is.

I was thinking about Westwood, but I decided on DeVry because it is close to where I live, and some of my friends are going there as well. Not only that, but DeVry is an excellent school anyway.

Dont get me wrong DeVry is a good school but just not for game programming. You could always cary over your credits when you get your BS though.

On the original note, your new card is working well right? Temps are normal?

Yeah, so far, so good. I'm using the NV Silencer, and the card runs at about 51c idle, and after about an hour and a half of CS:Source, or Doom3, or HL2, or whatever, the card tops out at about 68c. So, for now, as I said, everything is peachy.

Which is grounds for a ban. If the mods lock a thread they do it for a reason, not for it to be opened back up again.

If that's true... then why don't we just rename the AT Video Forum to the AT Rollo's Official NV Fanboy Forum, and just leave it at that. Seriously.

This thread started off with good information and intentions. Unfortunately, it soon changed. We all know why. I just want to get to the bottom of this issue, really.

Also no the VPU is not supposed to handle this right now. Microsoft MUST release a modified DLL to give the instructions to offload all Video Encode/Decode opps to the VPU. Without it there is no Encode/Decode for WMV files.

No, I think you're completely wrong about that last one. That's what NVidia wants you to think. They have a lot of people hopelessly confused between "PureVideo", and the functionality of the PVP silicon. "enables PureVideo" does not mean the same thing as "enables the PVP".

I don't think tyrant will care much that someone on an internet forum is flaming him.
Regardless...while it seems pretty improbable that 4 cards needed to be RMA'd, it's a possibility that after the first RMA, XFX sent GFTony back refurbed cards that may have been RMA'd by other people who tinkered with them (and did bios flashes to them, causing those odd speeds?). It's something to think about. No one will be able to prove anything until GFTony admits to something.

After his original post, he said something about sending the 3rd card to XFX, this was after he got the 4th card. If I remember correctly.
