New SLI system requires what for power?

I just dropped quite a lot of money buying a system with the following specs:
FX-55
Asus a8n (pre-ordered)
2 eVGA 6800 Ultras (pre-ordered)
16x DVD dual layer +/-
74 gb Raptor
120 gb West Dig.
Some misc parts that aren't power hungry enough to mention.

The psu that I bought with it is the Ante True Power 480W. I've been thinking long and hard about whether that is enough power. The gfx cards and cpu together shouldn't use more then around 330W and that leaves 150 for everything else.... but is that enough? Any opinions on whether I should go through the hassle of returning the 480W and getting the Antec 550W?

The cost doesn't bother me for the new psu, but I don't really want to go through all the process to do it if there is no need.

could run that with a solid 350w psu easily. assuming you aint planning on serious overclocking.

Excellent. I wasn't particularly looking forward to spending another $100. I'll run it like this and see how it goes.

How do you figure that?

That config is going to be drawign some serious 12v power. Each 6800 Ultra will be drawing 50+watts each, the FX-55 will be close to 70 or more watts. Fairly conservatively that?s 170watts for those three components alone, that?s a lot!

The True Power 480 has 22A on the 12 according to the specs I found. Good for 264 watts which isn't a whole lot for a 480 watt PSU. I think it will prolly work fine but there won't be a lot of head room.

it'll be fine. operandi, just to let you know, a quality 300W psu can run an fx-55, 6800 ultra, 1gb memory, 2 raptors, 2 optical drives, a sound card, and etc perfectly fine. how do i know? because people have done that. recommended specifications are for those who have generic products, such as psu's. why do they recommend a 480W generic psu for a 6800 ultra setup when a 300W quality psu can handle it? that's because half the people who have computers have crappy psu's.

I realize that but he has 2 6800 Ultra's, that?s a lot of 12v juice. That and the True 480 only has a 22A rating on the 12v rail, pretty low for a 480 watt PSU.

I think it will be fine too it's pretty close to saturating the 12v rail.

MSI is asking for at least a 450W PS when using SLI... with the 12V rail delivering at least 18A.

I don't think a 300W can handle a setup with two 6800 Ultras...

With a system like that please dont skimp on the power.
Personally if I had the money to build a system like that I'd have a PCP&C 510 Deluxe pushing it.
