Wish I knew how to get another black SGI keyboard. Compgeeks seem to never have any. I should have bought two when they were $ 5.95 at compgeeks.

I bought a few of the SGI black keyboards when I ordered the SGI LCD.. unfortunately, those bastards never sent them to me and my order got cancelled. I may send them to you at cost (if I can still find the suckers and if you sell me one of your SGI's at a good price!). haha. People were e-baying those suckers right after they received it and basically getting their monitor for free (buy two, sell one). Totally sucked for me because I ordered very early too.

Anyway, I believe the LCD's that use analog may differ in their performance depending on what they're using to convert the analog signal back to digital. Some will probably look much better. The Microtek that I'm using is pretty flawless and looks just as good as my laptop (if not better, since laptop LCDs aren't very good). My projector runs off analog too and I can definitely see each individual pixel and each one is perfect. The difference is probably negligible on a high quality converter.

LCDs are measured horizontally rather than diagonally?

i think what he meant was that because so few games run in widescreen, there will be black bars on the side (like a reverse letterbox), thus making the effective screen size 15". think of watching a regular tv show on a widescreen tv.

Not true the LCD just exstends the image. At least that's the way it is on my SGI. I have no gosting on mine mainly due to the DVI interface using a Radeon 8500. The Analog does have issues through the Multilink. My SGI end up costs nothing.

For $1000 it better dance, clean my room, wash my clothes...

Why don't you just save the $1000, and go buy a 42" plasma screen or something.

How do you get a clean picture on 1600SW with DVI on a 8500? I am having trouble to get it working on my Radeon 8500DV and PNY GF4 Ti-4200, seems that SGI Multilink is not 100% DVI and I got snowy or h-bands on the screen. Analog is ok, old AIW Radeon's DVI works just fine too.

Has anyone else successfully get DVI/multilink on 1600SW working with a recent DVI card? The only one worked for me is AIW Radeon but that was a card two generations old...

Rise time: 30ms
Fall time: 30ms
Total average response time: 60ms!!!

SGI 1600 was definitely the best deal of 2001. Too bad I waited on it and missed it. I kick myself to this day.

I thought 17 inch was too small compared to the 21 inch I had at the time. A buddy of mine as it and the resolution and size are great.

Just bought a cinema display. should get it next week. anyone used it with a PC? If so what card do you use and how do you get the 1600x1024?

All the people with the SGI panels, what card do you use and how do you get th 1600x1024 resolution.

Just go for one of these.

I did. Got it from Dell on a 10% off with a stackable 5% off and free shipping. Also, went through ebates to knock off another $31. Made it $1,553 or thereabouts.

I now know what computer nirvana feels like.

Suggested res is 1900x1200, but I run it at 1600x1024 (just better for my tastes).

I have used a matrox g400 and a geforce3. The geforce3 requires the newest reference drivers or any elsa drivers to get the 1600x1024 resolution. Also, if you are having problems getting ur multilink working, go 2 sgi, they have the best customer support I have ever seen. They fedex overnight me some new analog cables for the multilink for free!!

I was playing Quake on it... no ghosting that i could see even with a response time like that... quite nice. But i'd rather have an FW900 if i were to spend that much.

I have an FW900, 24" CRT. It's nice, but not as clear as the 20" LCD or 21" CRT's. Anyhow, it looks great with DVD's and high-res in XP. Helluva lot of workspace, but damn, the thing is huge, heavy, and bulky.

ive had radeon 8600, ti-500 and quadro 2 pro running with my 1600sw and never had a problem. The only thing that i cant get to work is the vga out on my ibook, the lcds just shows "unsupported mode"

How did you get the 1600x1024 mode to show up? usually only the standard 4:3 modes show. did you have to use a program like powerstrip. I am trying to run the apple cinema display on an ATI 7500 card with dvi.

That one only does 1280x1024 though, right? What's the response time?

Using DVI or analog? There is no problem for me too with analog but for DVI, even SGI acknowleged that there are a bunch of recent cards that not 100% DVI at BIOS level(quote SGI) and do not work with multilink very well. In my case, Radeon 8500DV and PNY GF4 Ti4200, although for GF4 DVI works for all the resolutions but boot/BIOS/DOS/WinXP logo screen(h-bands).

Nevermind my question about the 1600x1024 resolution. Once the cinema display is hooked up the ati 7500 card automatically presents the 1600x1024 resolution.

Man have you guys heard of Solarism?

Man their LCD specs are insane, very wide veiwing angle, every Audio/video input you can think of, Waaaay high brightness (600-800 cd/cm^2) only downside is response time but from what I've read on reviews (see Tom's hardware) it is not an issue.

Only major company that sell it is Best Buy. I want one, but I would rather have a Banias Tablet PC when they come out.

hey,
i need some help getting my DVI to work with windows xp (or with windows at all, it hasn't worked at all...) are there drivers for the sgi that i don't know about? i can change my multilink to digital and run the 'detect monitor' in the properties blindly (since its plugged into the digital and its not getting any signal) and it does detect it. but after i choose digital and apply the settings i don't get any picture in digital mode . anyone have these problems or know what i'm doing wrong?
thanks. i'm using a geforce 3.
