True to leftist psychology, some people around here cast their negative, pessimistic, and cynical remarks about a "tool" that could come in handy for GOOD purposes. It's so d4mn predictable (there's your "elitist left" comment NeoV).

OT- I am a fan of tasers... it's real popular with law enforcement in Arizona. It saves a lot of trouble (and lives) when someone can be tased instead of shot or let go. BTW, I have been shot with a taser and every muscle in your body locks up tight, so I doubt that dude peed himself because you couldn't squeeze a drop through a tased shlong.

Leave it to some militarist dipstick (who shall remain nameless) to take any discussion of possible down side to such weapons as a the evil mechanations of some vast left wing conspiracy.

Ooo-o-o-oh... Paranoia runs deep.

I suppose...I wonder if earplugs can counter this device, I'm sure they've tested for all that...

From the article:

Protesters covered their ears and grabbed their heads, overcome by dizziness and nausea, after the vehicle-mounted device began sending out bursts of audible, but not loud, sound at intervals of about 10 seconds. An Associated Press photographer at the scene said that even after he covered his ears, he continued to hear the sound ringing in his head.

Ever tried covering your ears at a fireworks display? And this frequency burst isn't even loud. It probably works by employing a frequency that vibrates human organs like a tuning fork.

Like the OP said. Isn't technology wonderful? And consider this, law enforcement and military are concerned with control. If they're handed a weapon like this, and thye're told it's harmless, they'll use it first and ask questions later. Just like the Taser.

I did read that...but anyone who has worked in a factory knows that earplugs are far more effective than covering your ears.

They talked about it on NPR today, they said at close range and high energy output it could kill you. It also causes a burning sensation on your skin and the personal accounts of it's first use said it's extremely uncomfortable and unavoidable. Expect it to come to a demonstration near you.

DING! DING! DING!

I mean, who would want to live on a democracy who hurts/kills its citizens. After all, forced labor is better than no labor.

Democracy, either you submit, or you move away. No.

I love John Titor.

Also, who is this meant for? Terrorist? Why not just kill them with 500 lbs bombs like we like to do in other countries?

It's going to be used against crowds of protestors in many many countries. This will be a highly lucrative product for Israel to export.

Sounds like a gimmick. Once the "secrets" out on ear protection the soldiers use when deploying it (carrier muffs by chance???) this weapon is all but useless.

Its an effect under the skin, not just on the ears.

Just becasue some tv show idiots can't build a homemade synth doesen't mean squat....
Look up a bit about "Throbbing Gristle" and how they got 86ed from the Uk...

After a bit of googling the only source of this ancient history from the late 70's I know of is a re/search book "Industrial Culture Handbook" (my books are still in transit from west coast..)

Also, I read and heard firsthand accounts of dolby labs in SF got a HUGE fined leveled on them a few years ago for a alleged brown note...

I would not believe everything you see on the discovery channel or whatever...the brown note could be used to incapacitate a block full of cops during a protest. Of course they say it's impossible.

anything i look up on the internet is much more questionable (unless it is from a reliable source) than those "tv show idiots" b/c at least those "idiots" have to live up to some level of scrutiny since they are in the public eye.

couldn't the protesters get ahold of the sound weapon mentioned in this thread as well? i'm feeling like this is a little bit too tinfoil hat to me - let's assume for a second that this "brown note" is indeed a reality. How does it work on the human body to make it take an uncontrolable dump? (as a side note i think they must be brown note emitting speakers outside the cafeterias at most colleges)

lol @ college cafeteria joke.

dunno, could be tinfoil, you would think someone would have put it an anarchists cookbook or something. *shrug*

I tried to find the link for dolby labs getting fined....I can't remember if it was sfweekly, guardian or one of the mainstream papers....It was like 10 years ago now that I think about it. Not much www in 95... (the good old days)

I have seen stuff even recently scrubbed from websites for example stuff about april glaspie and americas giving the green light to saddam to invade kuwait for slant drilling and the cover up and false witnesses provided care of haliburton making up stories about babies being tossed out of incubators by republican guard.

Was all over the news back in the day and I referenced it here and there in political forums, but now cnn and stuff...nothing. (besides hack sites) /tinfoil
