ok so my rockford car speakers have blown out right one has now distorted sound planning to buy polk audio db691 will they be good without an amplifier or there is a possibility that they will also blow out without an amp
sir what do you suggest should i go without amp or not?More speakers Blow from not enough power than too much.
Overdriving the circuit.
A quote from avs forums
"Agree with Londondecca. One should note that it's easier to damage a speaker with an underpowered amp than driving them with a more powerful amp as this will cause the amp to clip. When clipping an amp outputs DC (direct current) as opposed to AC (alternate current) - and speakers don't like that.
Since most speakers can handle short peaks exceeding their nominal rating a more powerful amp is unlikely to do harm when driven at normal levels (during normal use only a few Watt are needed)."
Even if you don't have an external amp, your head unit is the amp driving your speakers and can damage them as described above.
Crutchfield lists the sensitivity for those speakers as: 93db.
Crutchfield lists the sensitivity of Infinity Kappa 93ix as 96db.
Crutchfield lists the sensitivity of Rockford Fosgate R169x2 at 90db
Rule of thumb is that each time you double the power, you add 3DB, so, the Infinity Kappa's at 40W will sound just as loud as the Polk's at 80W, or just as loud as the Rockford Fosgate's at 160W.
I've got a pair of BIC America FH-65b speakers connected to a low power T-Amp in my home. They are 96db 1w/1m rated sensitivity speakers, and with only around 15 watts per channel, they put out almost as much volume as my BIC RTR-1530 home theater full tower speakers (rated 91gb 1m/1w) connected to a midrange yamaha reciever which claims to power around 100w per channel.
I agree with the others, if you want loud music without to much distortion, look at high sensitivity speakers.
these are specs for speakersYou don't want to bridge your mid range speakers. You only bridge your subwoofer as it puts the sound into mono....you don't need left and right on subs.
40watt x4 at 4ohms means the amps out put will be 40 watts per channel if your speakers are 4ohm
65watt x4 at 2ohms means the same as above, but 65 watts if ytour speakers are 2ohm
125watt x2 at 4ohms is really meant for sub woofers, bridge both channels into mono and you'll get 125watts per channel
sir little mean which power should i buy exactly i also plan to add subwoofer laterThe amp is a little under powered, the speakers can handle much more, but they will work.
