New speakers

I'm completely fed up with my speakers right now (2.0 stereo). They are really cheap and can handle base and loud mid range.

I really need some new speakers. Can anyone suggest to me a good set? Nothing higher than 5.1, and not to expensive. I also need something stylish looking (silver and black), no beige!

Audio not being my strong point with computers, I would just like to check something. I currently have an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard. It's got intergrated sound and states that it supports 5.1, but is this likely to be good quality. Do I need to look into getting a soundcard.

Thanks.

That board has SoundStorm, which is supposed to be quite good. I've never used it myself, though.

Anywho, for anyone to help you out you'll need to be more specific in terms of budget ($100? $200?) and what you do with them (music? games? DVDs?).

You have Soundstorm. IMHO That is better than ANY Creative sound card...

I can't suggest speakers... because I would only tell you to get these and an integrated amplifier. Because plastic PC 'multimedia' squeekers will always suck.

Maybe this?
$161.06 Denon AVR-1603
$149.88 Dayton 5.1
and a suitable digital cable
$6.90 Dayton Digital Coaxial Cable 1.5'
$7.70 Dayton Digital Coaxial Cable 3'
$8.80 Dayton Digital Coaxial Cable 6'
$11.70 Dayton Digital Coaxial Cable 12'

If you got the cash, I'd start with one of these $232 Denon AVR-1705 and a pair of the BR-1s I linked first. Then get another pair, center channel, and sub as you see fit.

Could you give us a specific budget you're looking at?

If you're looking at getting something as cheap as possible, I think using your integrated sound and getting some logitech z-5300s would be a good super budget option.

If you can spend more, looking at klipsch or creative megaworks would be a nice computer speaker option. At this pricepoint, you could also get an entry level HT set with receiver.

EDIT: Oh, you have soundstorm... yummy. With nice digital out already, a budget receiver an a nice stereo set or an entry level 5.1 would be nice.

I've got the Creative 7.1 speaker system and its really good. I run it on a Creative Audigy 2 with direct 7.1 connection and it works really well with FPS games. The speaker sub woofer box has a switch to down mix to 5.1 so you will still get the benefit from the 2 extra speakers and you wouldn't need to buy a sound card.

The speakers have come down in price lately so I would recommend you take a look.

I am looking to spend around $120 on this and I will be using them for mostly music and DVD's. Maybe the odd game, but nothing more than RTS's.

I love my Klipsch 2.1 speakers. I use them for the same reasons that you mentioned and these things are awesome!! They are loud, clear and the bass is amazing. Slightly above your price range, but theyre pretty incredible.

I have to agree, probably the best 2.1 system you can get
