I performed a fresh install of Windows 7 64bit on a 128Gb Samsung 830.

Here's what I did:
Changes BIOS to AHCI
Installed Windows 7

That's it, did not use Samsung magician since it was a fresh install. I was a little over zealous and forgot to check the firmware to see if I had the latest and I also didn't know about Intel RST drivers that I have now read should be updated.

Ok, so should I bother with updating firmware if everything is working well?
Should I update RST drivers now, or is it too late?
What are thoughts on Samsung Magician? Worthwile program or leave uninstalled?
Anyhting else I screwed up?

I don't have a 830, so I don't know about your firmware versions, but unless there was some major bug that the latest firmware fixed, it shouldn't matter.

You can always download and install the newest Intel drivers, it's not a big deal.

Don't know about Magician, since I never sued it.

Just make sure you have it plugged into the Intel SATA3 ports (not Marvell) if this is an Intel PC. And don't forget to enjoy the fast speeds

Samsung 830 current versions do not require firmware updates. (Good engineering doesn't rely on such bandaids.)

The Magician is a collection of usefulk Samsung utilities designed to keep your SSD running at peak performance. Install it.

I currently have two 830s - both excellent. If you have SATA 3 port, use it - otherwise it still performs great in SATA 2. It has its own proprietary controller (MCX.)

Mind if I ask why you wanted to switch to AHCI? Only reason I've heard of people doing it is so they can run Mac OS on a PC.

I have never heard of that being a reason for using AHCI.
Cut short, AHCI is more advanced, and has more features, so if your motherboard & BIOS support it, it should always be used.
