OK, I am really fucking tired of this shit.

I didnt like that Dawn of War 2 REQUIRED me to have a fucking Games For Windows Live sign in just to play it, even in Single Player. ITS STEAM YOU COCKSUCKERS! The whole fucking point is to not have to use other online components anymore, cuz they suck ass and arent fully integrated.
So then I got Wings Of Prey, and once again had to sign up for ANOTHER fucking game account with some gay ass group called ButtFuckers or something like that.
Really didnt like it.

And now, after months of being able to play Red Faction 3 without any goddamn issues at all, I have to sign in to GFWL AND manually type in my fucking code.
THE WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF STEAM WAS NOT TO DO THAT, ASSHOLES! Now its not acknowledging my account. I cant fucking play the god damn game I paid for and have already been playing. I'd sue the cocksuckers if I had any money. We need to start a class-action law suit or something.

Fuck them. They are never getting another dime from me.

I don't understand how Microsoft fucked up Games for Windows Live, you tell it to save your credentials and it never does.

I actually like the new Steam better than the old one thus far. About 80% of the time with the old version, I would have to restart steam to get it to work properly. Now it seems to work right every time. Of course, I prefer to play games off other digital download services, but for those that I bought on Steam I am glad they made the change. (I don't like having the heavy overhead running with Steam in the background, compaired to GoG or Impulse.)

I find that GFWL only works if you have an XBox 360 Gold account. I swear with God as my witness this is true. GFWL never did work reliably on DoW2 for me when I tried to create an online account. Then I got a 360, created a Gold Live account, and started using that login for all my PC games...now it all works well and I even get achievements showing up on my 360 when I login.

The oddly ironic part is I hardly ever have to sign into Live to play a 360 game, but on the PC signing in is freaking mandatory. God I wish I didn't like Fallout 3 and DoW2 + Chaos expansions so much.

1) steam can run in offline mode
2) if it isn't compatible it won't be on steam
3) steam adds a friends list, chatting capabilities, and in-game web browser. i play all my games with a steam overlay now, because it's so awesome.

Offline doesn't always work.
why does mw2 have to be on steam? mw1 worked fine without it
xfire adds a friends list, web browser, and is less of a resource hog than steam is.

Just so I have this straight - if I don't have (and never plan to have) a GFWL account, I can't play a game like the upcoming Mafia II (GFWL compatible) out of the box or over Steam? I'll just continue to skip those games then. I know it's free to sign up on the PC, but I have no desire to sign up with it.

People always say that, even though now it always works for me. I've used offline mode countless times with no problem.

Don't act like xfire isn't a steaming pile of shit

This I agree with. I'd rather games not require steam than require it.

xfire is a steaming pile of shit. but saying that steam is good because it adds a friends list is irrelevant because xfire also does. offline has never worked for me if i dont have the most current update.

btw ive been having problems with steam all night, offline and online. it keeps saying i have an instance running. after i kill the process in task manager and reboot.

Its equally annoying free or paid. The money is not the issue here. The issue is that Steam is supposed to take care of everything online and offline and you arent supposed to mess with any other system.
After Steam got a reboot, now many more games require GFWL that didnt before, which is total bullshit.
I do NOT want Microsoft invading my non-Microsoft games, its fucking bullshit and an unnecessary extra layer.

Only when a game requires both Steam and GFWL is it an issue (e.g. Dawn of War 2).
For something like Bioshock, it's your own fault if you don't like having to use Steam and GFWL, since you could have bought the non-Steam version.

I do agree that if a game already has one third-party software requirement which potentially offers friends lists/server browsers etc, then there is no need for GFWL as well. They should consolidate into one service.

I doubt they'd ever consolidate into 1 service, although it would be cool if Microsoft fully backed Steam as the PC achievement/whatever platform of choice.

I think the more likely aspect is that Valve needs to work with MS to get their GFWL to work a little bit more streamlined. It would be cool if Steam accounts could tie into GFWL and auto logon to GFWL games and license keys could pass over as well also. But that is a big effort and requires Microsoft working WITH Valve. I have no idea where the communication failure is in that scenario.

The funny thing is, we pay top-dollar for these games yet we have to jump through hoops to just play them. It is as if we got a huge discount and/or the companies, including Steam, are doing us a favor in "letting" us play online.

This is pure tyranny and somebody needs to put the smackdown on these companies/corporations; legally speaking.

DRM is another sack of shit that made me take a bat to my computer last year.

And guess what? People are still pirating the hell out of games. And the ones who suffer are the likes of us who paid retail price for these games.

Big Steam update this morning. It wont fix the pretty UI if you dont like it, but if you still like Steam the patches are nice.

Wow! Looks like I ruffled a few feathers here!

I reinstalled Steam today and it seems to work fine so I'm not sure what the issue was yesterday(?). My system crashed as soon as I updated so I put two and two together and thought Steam was the culprit.

Anyway, how do I attach a screenshot on AT? It won't let me add attachments so is there another way without uploading a pic to an external server?

I can show you guys my Event Viewer and may be figure out what exactly caused the BSOD??

Regardless, I'm having fun blasting punks in MW2!

Way to put two and two together there, heh...

Sounds like you need to reformat your system and start with a clean slate. OS's get pretty bogged down after a year of use (old drivers, possible malware and viruses, cluttered hard drive, etc), so it's a good idea to reformat at least once a year or two.

And while you're at it, get Win 7, it's amazing. Win XP is a fickle bitch.

Just wondering? anybody getting the fatal error: unable to load platform modules error?

I read Steam support page, but both solution don't work (I don't have steam process running, and my registry language is set to english).

Yea, I got this error message also after the last update yesterday (May 6). Havent been able to resolve it yet. Can anyone else help???

I do have mixed feelings about Steam. I like the sales obviously, but I dont like to have to be on-line to play. I know there is an off-line mode, but you have to be online to set up the game to play offline. Kind of defeats the purpose of offline mode unless you can predict when you will lose your internet or have a problem loading Steam like I am having now.

Guys,

I tried to play MW2 today via Steam. It updated to the new version (I haven't logged on to steam since early February) and then my system FROZE!

I had to 'hard' boot my system and then I get BSOD! WTF!??!

I finally was able to log on via Safe Mode and then I uninstalled Steam and all is well; at least for now.

So, has anyone else had the same experience or is it just me?

And just to be on record, "STEAM SUCKS D!CK!"

Title edited since this is a non-social forum.

It's called a PC game. It's not supposed to work properly.

You sure it's not an issue with the game itself. Steam is just a launcher. I haven't had any issues with the games I have on the new Steam so far. None at least that I'd blame it on.

BTW, if Steam could literally suck dick, think of the money they'd make. :hmm:

I hate the new layout.. takes you directly to advertisements.. and no matter what you do, you see advertisements.. The old Steam took me directly to my games.
