Tell me how the motherboard holds up, and overclocking. Oh, and memory too. Thanks. I'm doing alot of rendering lately and I'm thinking about a very similar setup as yours minus quadro functionality.

With SP2 installed and no tweaking really needed in the bios (ram sets it all automatically) I received a 9253/9254 in sandr memory.....

Seems very decent...

I cannot so far get any ocing to work...clockgen has no recognition of the AMD chipset...It has nforce ability in some...i will read up in it more...

With these 270's being 0604 and CCBWE I think they could handle a little boost...i could set the memory diver and still run memory at cas 2,3,2,6.....If anybody has an idea of anpther program like clockgen or how to do t in clockgen let me know...

Good lord Duvie... Just when I get rid of any urges to "keep up with the Joneses" you have to show up with something like this. And I thought my system was a monster box.

My one consolation is that you will actually use this as a true workstation and not just some benchmark rig like other guys do. Will you be doing any A/V type work? I'd love to see any results you get in encoding and decoding scenarios. I know my 4800+ does great, but 2 of them together would be :Q :Q.

Oh yeah...I will be doing some H.264 encoding and old fallback of Xvid....

Mainly CAD apps for real world....

If only I can find a way to get clockgen or one of the other windows based ocing to work....I almost hit 1000 now with cinebench while by 4400+ at 2.66ghz was getting 700...

Mainly some of my benches compared to the X2 have not been as huge a leap cause I am basically running 33% slower on all cores...I would love to squeeze 200mhz more of them and then test them straight aganist my 4400+ X2 to see real 2 to 4 core benefit....

I finally put together all the parts I need to dump video from my DV cam into my PC so I'll be doing a lot of endoding and editing. I'm looking forward to witnessing how my modern dual core CPU does compared to the old Tbred I last did something like this on.

I knwo my Tmpeg program should a 2x speed increase using same speed versus my old single core...I am interestd to see ifi t is dual threaded or clearly mutlithreaded..

What I will do is use affinity to set different cores to isolate the gain per core...

Here are some ATTO benches for my (2) 250GB WD SATA II in Raid 0 with 64 stripe...

Here is my cinebench score...So close to 1000...i wish I could tweak something to get it...If it was the 64bit version I would hit 1000....

The best I have previously gotten was 706 but was with an X2 at 2.66ghz or 33% higher clock and 114mhz more ddr speed non ECC....So actually the quad core scales pretty good when you figure 33% less clock but still is 33% faster....

installed amd cpu driver (forgot about it) and had a 3% increase...

I've got that version of Cinebench on my system at home. I'm going to run it on my 4800+ @ 2.5GHz tomorrow to see how it stacks up to your dual 270.
