I recently build a computer for a friend of mine, but much to our dismay, it doesn't seem to work. The system will power on, all the fans start spinning... and then it waits. It just sits there for about 10 seconds, nothing on the monitor, not a sound from the speaker, just the whir of the fans... and then it turns off. I thought maybe it was shorting so I took everything out of the case and placed the motherboard on the ESD bag his motherboard came in and tried to turn it on again. I got the same results. I ensured the heatsink is in fact in contact with the core (both my eyes and the heat absorbed confirm this), the only thing plugged into the board besides the CPU and RAM is his video card.
I know his video card works as it came directly out of his old computer, the RAM and CPU are brand new and neither seem to be damaged. I can not for the life of me identify the problem and we'd both really appreciate some help. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help Tripp get off his P150 and start flying with his brand new 1GHz T-Bird.
