After looking at alot of review and benchmarks i think this would be the best system for me
amd 64 2800 oc'ed to 2.2
chaintech nforce3 250 mobo
cosair value select pc3200 2x512
maxtor 160gb 8mb hd
nvidia 6800gt from here http://www.buyxtremegear.com/vc129114.html
nec 2510a dvd burner

I already have a case, 430 psu and a 19" samsung 955df monitor

what do you guys think all together i could get it for like 1100 dollars before the graphics card its
only 677 so the vid card counts for like 1/3 the price. kinda of steep but i know its the best and i want to get the best. Also what do you think about the vendor i am getting the vid card from?
I hope to get like 30% performance increase over my current rig which is in my sig.

Looks good. I've never heard of that vendor though. You'll need much faster memory if you plan on overclocking. You'll be forced to use FSB to overclock. I would get something that will allow 250mhz FSB or so. You also might want to look into the 3000+; I hear it's a significantly better overclocker than the 2800+ and costs marginally more. You should be aiming for an overclock in excess of 2.4ghz BTW.

buyxtreme are on my "do not recommend" list since last year they were creating accounts here on AT to spam the forums with fake happy customer posts. I wouldn't trust them to tell you the truth about whether the 6800 is in stock or when they will get more.

Check newegg.com for all the parts except possibly the 6800 GT (Hot Deals might find you a better source).

Also, some people are having problems with "stable" CPU overclocks causing crashes in UT2K4, so you might not want to count on that 2800+ OCing stably for UT2K4, Doom3, or HL2. You might be better off spending more to get a real 3000+ or 3200+.

AFAIK, you can lock the memory at 400MHz, and faster memory doesn't affect performance very much.
