unfortunatly no one from the team ever uses it (that I see) its become more of a public unmoderated server.

I don't know about private, but the gamebox servers I've been going to seem to have a lot of public traffic on them. That's why I was wishing for a private team server like we had in the old days.

I can't get a web page to come up.

how much bandwidth and internet resources does it take and how many people can you service?

Also how much computer processor does it eat up just as a server and no one playing at the server? Can it be run in an idle mode when no one is on? Say on a XP 1700+ runnin on Win XP.

ya its a TAD broked , LD left and stuff started falling over left and right. your right it is more public right now, we can privatize it if the team wants but when it was more of an unknown box no one would play it. (Thegamebox.net contributes to some of Thegamebox.org's traffic when people can't get onto the service they want on .net, they go to .org) so if people would play it when its private it would work.

go here for private game servers. Almost zero traffic here. Un-advertised. You have to know the game addresses to play. Always open. Never down. Waiting for AT'ers to join.

go here for public game servers. You'll get you butt fragged instantly by some real pros. Highly advertised servers. You don't need to know the address to join in these games, just simply do a search for internet servers from within UT and somewhere in the list these servers will appear.

As it stands right now, there can be 48 people playing on the private server and the cpu load will not rise above ~65%. It is alsohas a quite healthy connection to the net being hosted by xmission.

You can always check current private server player status to see if anyones currently playing.

LD is working on some custom Admin tools to help facilitate gameplay in the future due to the fact that the built-in UT Admin tools simply do not work with the 2.4.x kernels.

Please come and play, tear it up, request special mods, new maps, etc...
There is even a small forums set up just begging for suggestions.

You got that right. Best I ever do is middle of the pack, usually 5 or 6 out of 10 to 15 players.

You'll also get your butt fragged by campers waiting at spawn points, working together to frag you as soon as you spawn. :|

I'll visit the private servers more.

After I do some cleaning in my basement tonight, I'll load up UT and try to join in on a game or two tonight!

Okay, it took a little longer than planned.. local marathon of Stargate:SG-1 episodes! Maybe now I can actually talk about the episodes with BK and not be six months out-of-date.

Installing UT now - I'll have to go out and grab a couple of the patches too, but I'll be in there tonight..er.. this morning!

EDIT: Okay, well next time you run some stats on various games in thegamebox.net, you *might* notice networkman in for a little time.

hehehe, I get back into town, and discover .orgs popular again. Let me setup some facts.

thegamebox.org has been running for about 2 to 3 years, and has always been Team Anandtech/TechIMO's server. It's private, but sometimes to test stuff out we make it public. We do take requests as to mods, maps and such. This is your server, and the people in #thegamebox on the IRC server do a great job in making it great.

thegamebox.net has now become the number 1 UT server in the US. Because of this, we have our share of cheaters, and our share of number 1 players. If you want a good game this would be the server to join. Some of the games have close to 30 min wait times for players to be able to get in.

In the next two weeks I will be switching the website and forums on .net. This will take some time, but it should improve the site in general.

Let me know if you want to setup a vs game with TechIMO. They usually go very well, and it would be fun to do.

/me waves to LD!

<thegamebox.net has now become the number 1 UT server in the US>

Cool! At least that explains why I never make it to the top of the heap there. At least I don't end up last...

And as far as the .org, I've been in some lately, and I remember now why i stopped for awhile. I'm so bad I have a hard time beating the 'bots there. :Q And don't try to tell me that they are set on "novice" or something like that either....

And speaking of .org, how about an Instagib game with a variety of maps. All i ask is that Sesmar be one of them..

Thanks LD, good to see ya on the forum!
