Hey there all!

We've got a fancy new theme we'd like you to try out, and give us your feedback on. You can find the new "Sultan" style theme in the picker on the bottom left of your screen, as well as in your user control panel settings.

The new theme is significantly improved over the old default vanilla theme that has been the mainstay here for the better part of the last decade. It closer matches the AnandTech logo and colors, has a more modern interface with better contrast for easier reading, and - most importantly, is totally responsive. This means no more painfully rough workarounds or apps or sloppy iterations of mobile-friendly viewing of the forum for reading on smartphone or tablet. The new theme acclimates to all resolution sizes naturally.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback and input on this.

Yours,
Joe Pishgar

The Reply button is in a weird spot. When I click it the ad above is text and this reply space is too small.

When I scroll down to see your post while replying the smiley is huge.

I'm using Firefox 45.0.1 and I allowed everything is noscript and turned of Ublock Origin. If someone can't confirm my findings I may try firefox in safe mode to see if the problem is on my end. I just updated Flash today.

Edit: There is also text below the forum list on the left. I assume it is an ad. There is a lot of space below this post. I guess it's because the forum list and ad on the left side stretching the page. I only see two normal reply buttons. One at the top above your post and one clear at the bottom requiring me to scroll. It's more convenient to click quick reply and then go advanced for the full editor.

Edit2: When viewing a topic pictures appear large and stretched.

Just checked out the Hume thread, and the resized images all look squished and funky when not viewed at their original size.

Left bar does look better on the WS monitor but anything graphic is stretched then. Might have to play with it a bit to see if can change that.

NM, they look fine once you hit the resize bar, I should have looked at that first.

does this theme give us the ability to imbed twitter, instagram, youtube, or any of the other cool shit most 21st century forum software allows?

(nobody looks at the suggestion box)

Can confirm the reply box does not scale to a big enough size, and the smiley was stretched to... imaginative proportions. Firefox 45.0.2.

I'll add that "Submit Reply" and "Preview Post" buttons have no mouseover effect.
Whoa... quote boxes don't clear their line. Creating some very "interesting" text wrapping.

Maybe it looks good on a smartphone, but doesn't do much for me on a computer monitor.

The navigation column is way too wide. Same with the left and right gutters outside the main body of the page. Much larger than they need to be.

IMO, the font is too large. I'm also not a fan of the gray (#666) text instead of black. I can't see the reasoning behind wanting less contrast for text. The text could also use some additional line spacing.

i agree with everyone else, on all of the points raised. I love the simplicity of this place with out embedded bs that craps up everyother hole on the internet. the line spacing is all over the place, the font sucks to read, gray is bad.

I find the font to be fuzzy looking on my 1440p. Don't know if it's the font or the color. It's also not a fantastic looking font in general, but that's my subjective opinion.

Not a fan of the gradient background, but that's also purely subjective.

- Can't test how responsive it is because selecting theme does nothing on Android (at least in Firefox, "Request Desktop Site")

- Top nav ("mainmenu") font is too small relative to side nav (Ubuntu; Firefox)

- I slightly prefer the borders separating topics and categories on the default style. It's an older look to have visible borders on tables, but it makes the topics look less clustered, even if the padding is the same.

- A giant, blurry/poorly scaled "waiting" animation (I forget what it is called) appears for a second while saving an edit to a post

- A dark theme has been requested for a long time, was promised when we switched to vBulletin years ago, and would be greatly appreciated

- the mobile theme ("ATF lightweight") is still broken in a few ways (see prior thread)

EDIT: pic of the animation

EDIT 2: ^ resized images have messed up aspect ratio/scaling

There's a reason that vanilla outsells other flavors of ice cream.

My biggest quibble is that the spacing of the page looks like shit on a computer monitor. Trying to come up with a theme that's okay for both widescreen and handheld devices is a losing proposition. Anything that tries to cater to both winds up working for neither and that's how this one looks to me. Seems like an effort to make things phone-friendly to the detriment of computer users. As long as you make this optional, fine, go for it. But please don't fuck up the default vanilla theme. That one works better than this one.

I like the idea but on 1440p fonts are legible but jagged and fuzzy and that left side navigation takes up too much space.

It needs refinement.. like that navigation should not be on every page and thread, just in the parent folder.

what you need to do for a theme is replicate the old AT Dark theme that was in Fusetalk

which looked like this

I don't like it.

The font colour looks like worn out news print. When replying with a quote, some of the reply is above the quoted text, and the rest below the quoted text. Navigation bar is too wide.

Simpler is better, and the blue everywhere hurts my eyes.

On the forum pages themselves, with thread listings...
There is no line on each row to follow across the screen to easily match up information. It's a staple of list layouts. I'm rather surprised that's missing.

Sorry. I don't like it. I guess you could say it's visually more appealing, but that doesn't make it better.

It's entirely too bright and I was honestly surprised at first. Bigger issue is there's too much white space. There's barely any content on the screen. I have to scroll to do anything.

I'm not opposed to the new coloring if it was a little toned down, but the wireframe needs to be much closer to the current theme.

Also, no separator between threads is a

I think it looks fine other than the sidebar needs to be resized. It's actually more visually appealing compared to the original. Just needs a little more work.

Also, on the footer it has contact us in 2 different locations which is just a matter of changing the footer code to remove one instance.
