Yep, Win keys on both the T60 & X60's now. I'd say its fair to assume all forthcoming models will have those.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..........!
I don't understand what the problem is w/ the Win-key.. that's one of the only features (albeit minor) that I don't like about the T keyboard's layout. I prolly use that key (ctrl+Winkey = minimize all windows) 10 or 15 times a day on my pc.

1- What the logo aims at pisses me off.
2- As a Linux user it's useless for me.
3- It will get in my way as I am not used to keyboards with win key, most probably I will have to program it as Ctrl, thus a waste of precious space and the keys get crammed.
5- Again the logo pisss me off, isn't it enough that I have to be forced to buy a microsoft OS I also have to see that logo after the format too, enough is enough GOD!!!
in fewer words: I don't like the the Win-key cuz I don't like Microsoft.

Honestly, if the key "gets in the way" then why don't we just get rid of the rest of the useless (to me anyway) keys.. "scroll/num lock", "pause/break", "insert", 1/2 the function keys, "Access IBM", "~/`", etc.. and before anyone gets their feathers ruffled, yes! I know those keys are useful to some but not most. Conversely, the "win" key is useful to many but not all. - I guess it's an example of the old adage, you can't please everyone all of the time. - But Thinkpads come reeal close

The reason why Thinkpads are not like every other laptops, is because they aren't supposed to please everyone!
Thinkpads are supposed to be aimed at businesses and professionals, who don't want something flashy that will take a crap in 2 weeks, and at the same time they don't want to look like a 12 years old when using one.

If they were made with the intention of pleasing the majority of the market, then I don't think they would have used the same black color for them that has been in use for 13 years in a row of their production.

What's next Thinkpads without Trackpoints ? Last time I checked people who like Trackpoints are a minority in the laptop market. What, Lenovo should get rid of that too ?

People don't see it , Thinkpads are about heritage, and about not going with the flow and satisfying fads whenever they arise, otherwise we would have had white glossy Thinkpads by now, and they would have been called the iPads and they would have a big orange on the back of the LCD
Thinkpads are about making a point, not letting others make the point for you.

The win key is not part of the Thinkpad ideology and it should never have been added, Thinkpads are not supposed to be like any other laptop out there, if people like me wanted to, we would have got a Dell instead of a Thinkpad, we would have saved an ass load of money and got some extra fad like features in it too for the money.

OH and BTW in FC 4 I have the scroll lock setup to lock my screen

You could always try mapping the Windows key in X server config to the Alt+??? key for GNOME's menu to pop up

I hope the 1400x1050 are not too expensive. I can't stand my T42's 1024x768 res.

But still , it would cram the keys down there, and you would still have that brainwashing win logo in there too.

As much as I would like to replace my T40, I think I'll wait till there are more reviews on the newer T60 machines. I think I have at least one more year on this before I need to make a switch to a newer machine.

What GPU do you have? I thought all the 42's had Mobility 9600s.

Base models in the 42's and 43's use the Intel integrated graphic chipsets.

It's not about how it makes me feel only, it's just that this propaganda of brainwashing people with windows logos that kills me, why should it be a windows logo in there, it would have been fine with me if they have named it the XX or the FF key or whatever, but making it a windows key is just telling people that windows is the only OS out there and if that computer is going to be used with anything then it's going to be windows, for crap's sake am I getting my point across ?

It was an honour for me to be a customer of a brand of laptops that I think
were the only in the market that didn't have the win key it wasn't because of they couldn't do it, it was the ideology of non submission.

Now it's all gone now, THANK YOU FCKN LENOVO, MY FUTURE LAPTOPS ARE GOING TO CONFORM WITH GATES'S IDEA OF HOW A LAPTOP SHOULD BE LIKE, YA THANKS A BUNCH MORONS.

/Rant

If it is that big a problem then buy yourself an ibook/powerbook in the future. Obviously lenovo felt that inserting a windows key would be useful for the chief clientele that it is aiming for. Heck you could always pop out the windows key and never see it again.

Actually there Dan-O I think the base GPU in the T42's was the ATI MR 7500 or 9000

And I'm sorry about the beer, it was a busy weekend!

I'd rather have a keyboard full of windows logos then buy a MACrap.

After looking at some T60 pictures, I have to say that these don't look nearly as good as the T4x series

Agreed.
I know the stylish is different with the rounded edges and a few button changes, but I don't see it as being that different. *shrug*

They replaced the ports around
Do you have any idea when you'll be receiving your T60 for review? early Feb?

Edit:
A single core Yonah should provide more battery life than a dual core Yonah. Right?

I guess I just don't see the ports as big of a change, but I understand that.

Hopefully before early Feb, but it might just be that long.

A single core should have slightly better battery life. Although not an indicator of true power consumption under normal usage, the Core Solo's have a TDP of 27W @ 1.66GHz and 13.1W @ 1GHz. Core Duo's have a TDP of 31W and 13.1W @ 1GHz. The more advanced power saving features of Yonah alone increase power savings over Dothan, so I'd imagine dropping a core would help as well.

That would make for a very interesting review!
