I am so sick of seeing/hearing all these posse rappers coming out of the woodwork when they're friends make it big. What's the deal with these guys? I mean, some rapper makes it big, and all of a sudden his record label is trying to shove all his no-talent assclown friends down your throat. They are the reason why this whole rap industry is digging its own grave.

I don't know when this whole thing started, but in modern times I trace it back to the whole Junior MAFIA clique coming out. Basically, Notorious BIG started blowin' up when 'Juicy' hit the airwaves, and all of a sudden he had a solo career. Then he starts droppin names in his lyrics. Chino XL? Lil' Cease? WTF?? Who the hell are they? For all we know they were bodyguards, personal trainers, high school buddies or crack dealers before someone put a mic in their face and gave em a few lines to read.

Same thing happened on the West Coast. First it was all about Tupac and Dre/Snoop. Then you see these fools callin' themselves Outlawz? Huh? What rock were they under? Then Ice Cube started talkin' bout his boy Mack 10...where the hell did he come from??

Then the whole DMX/Ruff Ryders thing came out. First it was X. Then came Ja-Rule, Drag-On, Swizz Beats (I think he's the producer?) and a whole string of names...like someone put a blender on 'pulse' and forgot to put the lid on...they just splatterin' names all over now.

Worst case by FAR is the whole Master P/No Limit and Juvenile/Cash Money sh!t goin' on in Nawlins. How many rappers from New Orleans did you ever see before these fools hit it big? All they do is clog the record charts with their filth, and crowd the release schedule. Soon enough real rappers with talent (yes, they do exist) can't get a word in edgewise cuz of all the sh!t coming out.

Some other posse rappers cuttin' loose:

- Fabolous
- Jay-Z's friends (Twista, Memphis Bleek, Beanie Seagal)
- Wu-Tang Clan (RZA? GZA? NZA? NAACP?? just how many members are there? is Red Man part of the Clan or what??? OMG HOW THE FVCK DOES ODB HAVE A CONTRACT??? HE'S A CRACK ADDICT LIVING UNDER A BRIDGE IN BROOKLYN!!!)

anyways, I've stopped listening to rap until all these fools kill each other, slip back under the rock/into the woodwork, or go out there and get real jobs...

/rant off

Just because you never heard of them, means they can't homage to their friends? I despise rap, but what you say doesn't make sense.

No, he's right. "Talent/promotion by proximity" is crap regardless of the music genre.
He has no idea what he is talking about. Most of the "facts" he mentioned aren't even true. His post proves he doesn't really know what goes on.

I can't comment on the specifics, but the general idea is right. It happens all the time and is annoying as hell.

Don't agree with me? Great...but please tell me why I'm wrong. Another example...Nas' bodyguard "Horse" had a lyric on that "Oochie Wally" track. It was a great solo, but he didn't write it. He just sounded cool saying it. Jay-Z even ripped on Nas for the fact that he gave his best verse to his bodyguard in that song. Haven't heard Horse do anything else since that song...

though i don't listen to rap, i know what you mean. those friends of eminem (i think they are d12) are the saddest excuses for MCs i've seen allowed in music videos and on radio.

there is something called or referred to as the "underground" this where people perfrom music without contracts out of love for the music. This is where most "mainstream" artists originate. Some choose to remain there others choose to be mainstream. Some go back and forth trying to make a living without selling out. Educate yourself before you make such rediculous comments.

I agree for the most part, there are a lot of solo artists who came out of nowhere and should go back to nowhere. I don't, however, agree with the Wu-Tang comment entirely, in that RZA, GZA, ODB, etc are all original members of the group who set off on solo projects...nothing wrong with that because they were never "posse" members. They are part of the group and contributed since the first album. Now KillArmy, Sunz of Man, etc are another story...

And as for No Limit & Cash Money...well, for the most part, they're just an embarrassment to New Orleans and are heavily responsible for the jaded and stereotypical view many people take towards hiphop.

The fact that people like you guys take rap so seriously is part of the problem.

Sorry, but when I think of underground, I think of EPMD (from back in the day), People Under the Stairs, DAS EFX, the Beatnuts, Craig Mack from way back, etc. etc. Artists who put out GREAT albums and don't have to collaborate with some mainstream Pop-Hop rapper just to get noticed. They are recognized for their talent alone.

I agree I was wrong about the Wu Tang Clan...back in the early nineties they were the greatest thing in New York until Puffie started buying out all that radio time (he basically bought out airtime on Hot 97 so other artists didn't get played...punkass.) With the exception of Method Man, I just think they were better as a group than they were solo. I bought Ghostface's album a few years back (the one with 'cherchez la ghost') and it was good but not that great.

Oh, and BTW I'm not white, nor black either. Brown. I hate it when white folks try to call me out for being white on a forum when they don't know wtf they're talking about...

Since none of the people or groups you mentioned have any talent to begin with, I can't quite understand why you object to other such "no-talent assclowns" being brought into the "limelight".

While you are right in some cases, as people have pointed out, with some of the artists you mentioned, that was not at all the case. For example, Twista was a solo artist already (who arguably was in a bad situation). In fact, he was in the the Guiness book of world records, and then Jay-Z just decided to get him on some songs. Jay-Z + Twista + Timbaland production = big radio hit.

Your missing my point....youre passing judgement on a rappers talents based only on 1 or 2 mainstream songs you've heard on mtv. Listen to there undergound sh!t. Most rappers earned a reputation on the underground circuit b4 they sold out.
