im surprised Nelly and his St Lunatics werent mentioned in this thread. They released an album that sold very poorly. Even one of the members tried to go solo and found limited success. They have a guy who wears a mask and doesnt even rhyme! he doesnt talk, nothing! so, yeah, i see the point in this thread.

lol, usually id be in the center of this hip hop is good/it sucks argument, but ive already been in too many on this board, so ill just say "to each his own" and leave it at that.

WTF? Your assuming too much

When the last time you heard
Jurrasic 5
headPE
Tool
Dream Theater

Or the likes on any of these mediums?
Thats what i listen to for the most part....

Are you just upset because i dont care much for someone you like?

I would not be so upset to make assumptions about someone based on there opinion of someone i like.
You know what they say about opinions...... everyone has one, Get over it and
quit trying to blame Mass Media or Pop culture as my influances... you dont even know me

They are what I was talking about in a group you are always going to have the strong (nelly, BIG, Tupac,Jay-z Nas) and the weak (St.lunatics, Braveharts , Junior Mafia) btw Strong doesn't alway mean best rapper/singer it mean best preformer.

J5 are alright, not that good. Ever heard D-Block? Big L? Canibus? Never heard of them? They are some of the best out there but you have never heard of them because they are not mainstream.

I'm gonna break this down again........more simplerer for you

you based your opinion only on his most mainstream album thats what i based my comments on. If you really knew the artist you would also be familiar with the music that is not heard on mtv and the radio. that was my whole point. How can you pass an opinion if you don't really know the artist aside from the mainstream stuff. I may be wrong in doing this but i simply disregard opinions based only on listen to a mainstream sample of an artists work. sorry if this upsets you.

It's true. He just needs some alchemist/red spyda/etc.

Waiting for Rip The Jacker. Hope he finally drops the classic he is capable of.

My original statement was that i wouldnt pay 50 cents for his album thats out,
His previous work has no impact on that .
Anyways, im sick of argueing about it , really I guess im just not entitled to have an opinion

Often, one of the "woodwork" guys actually writes most of the lyrics for the group but just isn't real comfortable on stage.

Anyone know if Styles of Beyond is ever going to release a new album? 2000 Fold had some ill tracks.

<--- agrees with you, uncJIGGA. People without talent are being crammed down our throats. But, if you expand your horizons beyond rap, you'll realize how much influence the recording industry has on what we hear. Throughout the industry, it's more of a who you know, rather than how good you are. (or, in addition to who you know.... who you sleep with probably applies as well in a few cases - not saying that those artists whose sex appeal has contributed to their fame aren't talented, because a few are... but it's only a few)

So, in the end, we end up with a mixture of talented and untalented artists on the airwaves.... and a culture that seems to worship these people. Plus, an awful lot of people who are afraid to say "their stuff sucks, they have no talent, all those fans are just jumping on a bandwagon" for fear of being ostracized by the masses who've been brainwashed by mtv etc to believe their stuff is good.

You guys f'ing disgust me:disgust:. No one in this thread has any knowledge about rap but gigapet and Underground727. The rest of you are making judgements from this mainstream rap - which does not do any justice to all the genre's of rap. Yes, genre's. There are so many different styles of rap that so many people don't even know. The only genre you people even know is the mainstream rap which radio stations and MTV cram down people's throats.

If you want to have a real debate about this, go get educated. I refused to talk to ignorant people who create facts (look at uncJIGGA's first post) and pass judgement on it.

I agree. I dont like Nelly, I don't like 50cent. I hate J5. But I do listen to some of the southern rappers. Paul Wall and Chamillionaire are crazy. I can't wait for their new album.

Copywrite is a good example of a white boy underground rapper. Representing Columbus too. He dated my friends sister, cool guy.
