Man, a few years ago I loved that mag, and bought a 3 year subscription which I will be terminating come DEC with reckless abandon.

Below is a copy of an email that I just sent the editor.

<< As a faithful reader for several years, I'm sorry to say that your magazine has denigrated to a point where I won't subscribe anymore. When the new layout came last year, and my favorite columnists (Tom Halfhill, and Thomas McDonald) were shot from their full page spreads to single columns, I was a little dismayed. But, the text is smaller, so maybe the word count is the same. Nontheless, I'm voting for a name-change for your magazine. Several of which are listed. You can see in my name changes why I'm not renewing.

Maximum Ad
Minimum Article

Maximum Dummy
Minimum Techie

Maximum FUD
Minimum USE

Maximum Revenue
Minimum Expense

I love your magazine from a few years ago. I really do. But this new layout, with maximum ads, has completely fubared what used to be my favorite MAG. I'm even thinking of tossing my archives (3 years now).

PS. An article about how to build a PC? Puhlease. I thought your readers were beyond PC Building 101?

Well perhaps their waking up to the new era of business. Otherwise known as "Do what it takes to stay in business". With the latest antics and economic struggle's it only seems logical their business practice should be to expand their target market beyond Novice/Advanced PC users into the n00b sector.

P.S. I've never even read a Max. PC mag.. I understand your rant - but sometimes ya gotta just understand their situation and move onto a new mag.

Your first three suggestions sound fine...but your last one:

Maximum Revenue
Minimum Expense

I like Wired. They have some really neato feature articles. Wouldn't pay for any mag subscription, tho. Then internet is so much better.

I subscribe to MPC and like it.Yeah ,less ads and more content is always better but to be truthful I don't mind
the trade ads too much,it's nice to have hard copy printed ads to show clients interested in various hardware.
As for the "Build a PC" articles, I have no problem with it as a lot of the mag's power users expertise lies in software
not hardware knowledge, helping those peeps build/upgrade is a worthy goal, but that's just my 2 cents worth.

I got banned from their forums a long time ago for having a civil arguement that *gasp* perhaps men are different from women in abilities. That's why I hang out here so much.

besided their forums sucked once they let all of the brown-nosers become mods.

Once I had an arguement with thier editor Josh, that there was a such thing as a digital 3 piece speaker set. Dickhead would not apologize or retract his statement reguarding the speaker system after I proved him wrong.

I got mad and let my subscription die.

I was only trying to point out that in today's struggling times, it's very apparent that's indeed what their motus operundi is. Whereas it used to be to make the best kick-ass PC mag out there.

I'm thankful for them that they are able to stay in business, and do whatever it takes. I used to really like them, that's all I was saying. Targeting a broader spectrum of subscribers only makes sense in teh bu$in$$ world, and I surely won't hold that against them. But, that being said, I just don't like them anymore. It's just a shame that they can't be a "Maximum" PC mag anymore. They used to be really really good. Kudos for the jewels to make the change, with the risk of alienating earlier subscribers like me who adopted the mag for their former "hard-edge" approach. Besides, this is not really a rant, but more of an epitaph. Goodbye once really good mag.

Was hoping someone else who read it could come up with some funny suggestions too.

Maximum PC was great a few years ago, but i stopped reading it recently. I wish they'd bring back PC Accelerator, now that was an amazing mag

I have been a subscriber since it was called "Boot magazine". I have all the CD's of shareware and demos they have sent since those days until present. It is a pretty good magazine and colorful in content and language. If they are adjusting to market downturn,so be it. They willsurvive, because they are different (in a good way.)

I also subbed back when it was still Boot. The main reason was to get the cd of shareware and demos - they had some good stuff on them. I stopped getting the mag soon after they changed their name and stopped sending out the cds. I grabbed a copy of Maximum PC a few months ago and it reallys seems to have gone downhill.

You want to talk about magazines getting worse, look no further than PC Gamer - it's a real shame how they've really gone downhill...

It was great and fun read when Gary Whitta was running the show, but now it's a shell of itself - you could see that after they had Stevie "Boobcreek" Case on their list of "Gaming Gods"... Plus the annoying way the new editor breaks into article to add a stupid comment and that ass-pounder reviewer Vederman makes me want to puke....
