New to Gaming.... Won't work, WHY??? Help please

I am new to gaming on a PC. I have tried to load Soldier of Fortune and Quake Areana on my PC neither will even load.

When I try to install either program the whole PC slows to a crawl and as the games try to adjust the screen to the settings to install the game, the PC locks up??

The system:

AMD K7 700
ABIT KA7 MB
128 PC 100 ram
Voodoo3 3000 w/tv out
12 gig HD w/win 98 SE
20 gig HD w/win 2000
Sound Blaster PCI512
ACER 40X CDrom
DIGIview 17" monitor
3com Video Capture card (PCI)
56K hardware modem

Is there anything other info that would be helpful?

I tried to load the games under win 98 SE.

I don't understand why the games will not even load??? Any help would be appreciated. Ask me any questions that might help solve this please.

Do you have a Anti-Virus program running? If so, disable it while you install.

Do you have the latest drivers for the v3? Did you install the via 4in1 drivers?

What DirectX are you running? 7.0a is the most stable version at present.Btw you can get latest official Via 4 in 1 drivers from here for 4.25a drivers

Yes I have anti virus running... I will disable.

Yes I have directX 7.0

and I did install the 4 in 1, but I will get the newest drivers and install them.

I also went to 3dfx.com to get the latest drivers for my video card. To see if there are any newer drivers but their site was so slow I gave up. I will try that again later also.

Another little tip,having the latest Monitor drivers also helps as well.
