New to overclocking, help please!

Hi guys. I purchased all the parts to my new rig yesterday, and they should all be here tomorrow. Here are the specs:

So here is the story: ive never really been interested in overclocking. I always thought that OC'ing would fry my system, or somehow shorten the component's lives and ruin my comp down the line. Im sure that this is a pretty simplistic way of looking at this, so I ask you OC kings, what can I do with this system? Keep in mind I dont plan on doing anything crazy, and I am gonna be using stock cooling. My case is the CoolerMaster Centurion that anand reommends on his mid-guide. So taking this into account, is there any overclocking that is worth doing, and if so, how do I do it? Please, when you explain, do so as if you where talking to you grandma. I have NEVER OC'ed anyhing and wouldnt even know where to begin. Thx in advanced guys.

No amount of forum posting will instill upon you the vast knowledge that you would gain by doing less mongering and a little more personal reading!

Thx for the reply but the reason I posted is because I dont really have that much of an interest in OC'ing to study it. Especially because overclocking seems to be a pretty complex matter, and I wouldnt want to risk frying my system. Isnt this what this forum is for? to get help from people who know what they are doing?

That guide is one of the best C2D/Q overclocking guide around, it speaks in plain English, takes you from start to finish, and explains every little step along the way.

Yes, OC?in is sort of a complex matter, and there is no better way to get started than to ?Study? the basics and then try it out. If you didn?t even breeze over that guide before returning with ?I wanted people to help me not give me reading? then there is very little anybody can do for you.

OC?ing requires understanding some basic concepts and principles, including what is safe and what is unsafe, what is reasonable and what is unreasonable, and how to recover from a failed OC. You need to understand these concepts before you begin, otherwise you may as well never start.

I apologize if I am coming off a little strong, I know I often do that, and I mean no insult, but you just got the keys to a brand new car and responded with ?I don?t want you to teach me to drive, I want you do it for me.? Get my drift?

So, again, if you intend to OC, I highly suggest you take the time to read that guide over, and then many of us will happily answer any questions you have or help you out with any specific problems you encounter, but most people won?t spend the week teaching you via back and forth single posts. That will only result in much aggravation for yourself, trust me.
