I need some suggestions on easy to use video editing applications, and I'm hoping to find some people who have done both light and serious editing.

For instance: I'd like to take clips of DVD's or divx movies, and mix them together with other video...

For presentations, I'd like to be able to just stick stills and then have audio, and flip stills at certain intervals.

Now I'm not sure what software package I should using... I know I tried adobe premiere 6 or so a long time ago but I couldn't figure out the interface.

Are there easier to use video editing tools? DVD authoring, etc?

Heh, the standard Windows Movie Maker sounds like it'll do what you want.

Vegas video is awesome. If it's out of your price range, try Vegas studeo. You can download free demos from the web sight to see if it's right for you. I like it way more than Adobe.

dont go with Avid, it will own you. It's my choice for editing, but it's on a professional level. Try Windows movie maker, you might have to demux your DVD video to edit it. Other than that I would suggest Vegas.

for starter I would suggestyou to try out lite version of Adobe Premiere Element since you already using version 6 of Premeire. after master it you won't have any problem with Premiere 6.

The standard window movie maker is not sophisticated enough for editing different formats. So no, its not in any way enough.

I use Canopus ProCoder to transcode all files to a high bitrate MPEG2. The I use Womble MPEG Video Wizard to edit everything together. Then use QuickTime Pro 7 to transcode the final clip to h.264.

Another vote for Vegas or Movie Studio.

Also, Ulead's DVD authoring apps are pretty good.
