**Update

Announcement will take place during EGX at 4pm London time (11am EST) and can also be viewed live here on twitch: EGX Live Stream

The rumor is the next game will be based on Attila the Hun. Here's a few shots of CA's booth prior to being unveiled:

Having played this series since its inception and despite the continuous buggy releases that have plagued this series I'm still looking forward, for some odd reason, to the next release. After pre-ordering Rome 2 and despite all its problems I still logged over 100 hours with the game.

Creative Assembly has said that they will not be making a 3rd installment of any title in this series as of yet so there is no hope for a Medieval 3 at this point. Beta should take place this Spring and CA has stated that anyone who currently owns Rome 2 will be able to participate. Hopefully its something worthwhile...

Que another round of avoiding buggy launch, wait for patches and buy for cheap during Steam Sale.

I don't even have the time to invest into playing Total War games anymore though, so I probably won't even get it during the eventual Steam Sale.

Absolutely. The Westeros: Total War mod for Medieval 2 is ok but something done professionally from the ground up would be awesome.

They pretty much can't beat into the ground any more medieval wars or ancient wars, and the system in it's current fashion (and power of PC's) can't yet handle a proper napoleonic battle, so that's still maybe 1-2 generations away.

Honestly, they really need to look into landing some new IP's from the film and novel industries.

I don't want to see another civil war/napoleonic game unless it's something along the lines of Sid Meier's Gettysburg. Until they can render each individual rifleman on a 800 man regimental line amongst brigades...and render each bullet path....count me out because it plays awkward and looks awkward.

So is Rome 2 worth buying/playing yet? Or is it still a buggy, over-simplified mess with terrible AI?

So its going to be Attila with a release date of February 2015.

Set in 395 AD they've brought back the family tree, missing in Rome 2 and added some additional political management. No price yet but if its a standalone game and not an expansion of Rome 2 it will probably command a premium price.

They just released the emperors edition which came with UI tweaks, new campaihn, & slight performance improvements. Its solid now a year after release. Only took a year! lol

Does Rome 2 still use those horrible building slots they introduced in Empire and Napoleon?

So basically what Rome 2 should have been? I liked Rome 2 once it was patched enough to be playable, but this game better have some enormous polish and additions to justify it basically being Rome 3/2.5 in disguise.

I don't know... Some developers need to stop releasing buggy games then taking years to patch them. I'm getting tired of supporting this business model.
For the premium pricetag that this certainly is going to be it should be fully beta tested with a nice coat of polish to finish it off.

Is my way of thinking hurting the developer or is the developer hurting itself? Do I have a right to expect a certain level of quality? Will AAA games cease to exist if we all expect them to act/look/feel like a AAA game on release?

Still havent played Rome 2. Maybe if it hits a good steam sale.

You can play it for free this weekend on Steam. No sale price, though. At least you can check it out to see if it's something you would like when it does go on sale.

game was fine after a few patches. Some people on certain hardware and older OSs had isssues. Internet blew it way out of proportion.

Not worth it.

Maybe for like 5 bucks or something. I was playing for the last 4 days over the free weekend. Even got a full free day more because I did not exit the game after the free weekend was over until today some hours ago. Very simplified and gameified compared to other total war games like Medieval 2 or even Empire or Napoleon Total War. I like the addition of technology and the army traditions but otherwise the game is not amazing and even dissapointing in many ways. The agents are all different flavors of the same thing and the general traits are simplified and are only obtainable through fighting instead of administration. Diplomacy is simplified compared to Medieval 2 or Empire although most of it is the same. Rome 2 still uses the building slots that were introduced with Empire and Napoleon and they suck. The map mechanics also suck. Empire and Napoleon had the most advanced map mechanics I have seen yet in any Total War games so far. The real time battles are basically the same. Still lots of bugs.

I bought Road Redemption for $20 some days ago and it would not even start. They released a patch some days later and I tried it for the first time today despite still being in early access it is no more buggy than Rome 2 is after a year of full release and many patches. Just look at how much DLC Creative Assembly and Sega have put out yet and you can tell what their priorities are.

Graphics are improved yes, but gameplay mechanics have suffered.

Bought at release played last year, stopped because of garbage patching and CA's treating customers like idiots.

I have been trying to give it a try lately...it does feel slightly improved RELATIVE to where it started. The game still feels empty and "same-y" alot.

IF Creative Assembly puts their money where their mouth is, then MAYBE Attila can redeem them for the mess that was/is Rome 2.

It's not horrible, its good. But it's good in that "Darn this game could be so much better" -sense.
