Hey guys I just picked up a 9550 from MC and a Corsair H50 from Best Buy (had a gift card... sue me).

I'm going to be using my current motherboard housing an e5200 @ ~3.3 ghz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813188033

The motherboard is kind of a wonky cheap SLI board from what I gather. It seems like everyone uses P35/P45 to OC s775 chips.... does anyone have experience on the 750i platform? I have 2x2GB G.Skill PC2 8500... I'll have to check what the current divider/fsb settings are when I get home but does anyone see any limitations I could have?

Antec p180 case and Corsair 650tx btw.. pics later when I get this setup..

I have a Biostar P45 board and the same pieces you have above. It has been a bumpy road trying to OC my 9550 so far. I'm still trying to decipher what the heck I need to adjust to keep it stable.

Is it running yet?

No I had to call it a night a few hours ago, had a couple of setbacks as usual. One of the heatsink clips on the mobo blocked part of the h50 backplate so i had to spend a half hour with an exacto knife carving a notch in the plate so it would fit... classic diy crap... Also I don't think I can do push-pull on this mobo because there is barely enough clearance for 2 fans + radiator next to the cpu. Maybe I could do one fan on the outside.

Definitely plan on getting it going tomorrow night... though lost is on so thats an hour gone...

I have a Biostar p45 and it overclocks great. I do 3.4 stock voltage 4ghz with extra voltage.

Here are my settings for 450mhz+ FSB

BTW I found the wall at 480.

My settings

CPU.........+0.1125
ddr..........+0.40
chipset.....+0.325
FSB.........+0.350
core 1 gtl...0.67*VTT
core 2 gtl...0.69*VTT
Mch..........0.64*VTT
CPU PLL.....1.8
ISL...........-15%

Readings
CPU..........1.328v
NB/SB.......1.376v
DDR..........2.19v
FSB .........1.424v

You may not need that much especially for the ram.

Could need a BIOS update to support the quad, since it doesn't post. This stuff is always unpredictable. Whatever you do, DO NOT try to do a Windows-based BIOS update - always update the BIOS through the utility within the BIOS for updating (I presume one is there, it usually is). Using a Windows-based BIOS updater is a recipe for turning the board into a dead brick.

I updated the BIOS to the newest before putting the new chip in. 50 reviews on newegg say the board needs a bios update to support quads but even with the newest BIOS I'm seeing reports of RMA's being needed...

I'm 10 days from my 1 year warranty from being over... close call!

nFarce fail :\

GL w/ the RMA board though, hopefully it works.

Or maybe sell the replacement board & get a board that will actually let you OC well, like a UD3R/P.

Yea, you definitely want a UD3R or P board. I loved mine but i'm not parting the combo sale out. Hell, if no one buys it, I still have a kick ass rig sitting there!

it's at 1.25625 or something like that in the bios. cpu-z shows 1.264 under load.

Fantastic! I've always found the EVGA guys to be good blokes. A good outcome.

Yeah they were great about it, the only reason it took so long is because I used cheap ass shipping to get my old board to them.

Prime failed after about 4 hours, the system just froze. No errors or anything just a frozen mouse/computer. Temps never got over 60C on the chip at least. Any idea what this is likely a sign of? I'm gonna set it to 3.4 until I have time for further testing.

Hi, I had the same board and same chip as you are using and had that problem a lot at higher FSB speeds.

What are you using to produce your 3.6GHz? 425x8.5? I found for that configuration I needed 1.3V VTT and at least 1.4V -1.45 to the SPP (northbridge), oh and A LOT of GTL tuning. Is is a great board but I would say you approach the max FSB with that board around 1800 QDR and GTL tuning becomes very important.

To get higher FSB speeds I would suggest dropping your CPU multiplier and focussing on tuning the memory/ board stability at higher FSBs using large ffts - either prime95 or OCCT for maximum stability.

I have seen some people hit 1882 QDR (that's what you need for 4GHz) using this board/ chip combo but I don't want to think about what voltages they used.

That is great info, thanks! All I did for 3.6 was up the fsb to 425, everything else auto. I'm going to do some fine tuning as I get time...
