Hi, I purchased a Cyberpower CP1000 pure sinewave 1000va 600w UPS. I have my 24" monitor and desktop plugged into it. My desktop is an i7 950 at 4 ghz, a gtx 580, couple harddrives, 6 gb ram.
Now, the load usually shows around 200w at idle, and I was able to get the load up to 525 w using prime95 and crysis 2 at the same time. During gaming about 300 - 350w. I tested the UPS and cut the power, and just idling at the desktop will get MAYBE 5 -10 min battery life, of course way less if I do anything.
I don't want this UPS to let me continue working during a power outage, I just want it to have time to shut down the computer..... I know that UPS batteries degrade over time, should I get a larger UPS, or should this be sufficient to last 4-5 years having at least a couple minutes of battery life to shut down? I've never owned a UPS, I don't know how much their batteries will lose life.
