Just purchased an 1994 se-r and i was curious if ant-sway bars or strut bars were really helpful. I know some of them look really pretty, but i was going to get some low end stuff just for performance. Anyone know how much of a difference theyre going to make. Im hoping its going to be a significant one, but I was curious what you guys thought.

good taste in cars! I have a 92 se-r.
about the sway bars, I hear they help a lot. strut bars the rear needs more help than the front. but only Active Tuning makes em for our cars, and they're 99 bucks.
I'm still running on stock suspension, so I don't have first hand experience with sway or strut bars. Though I'm working on a a homemade rear strut tower bar.
You find lots more info at the sr20forum. Do lots of searching there before asking questions. They have search nazi's that will yell SEARCH!!!!one11 if you don't..

edit: btw, how much, how many miles, and how's she running?

I thought 2200 was a deal with almost flawless interior and engine. the exterior doesnt have any major problems, but it could use a new coat of paint, but its not a big concern to at this time. The engine does have 120k on it, but its okay I think for a 10 year old car. Hmm, shes running pretty nice. I would like a stiffer ride, so the shocks, springs, etc.. would be ideal upgrades in the future. its a fun commuter. Im looking forward to changing, and replacing some componets this weekend. General stuff, spark plugs, wires cap and rotor. etc... Have you done any upgrades to your car?

A good upgrade for suspension would be eibach prokit, kyb GR2 and 19MM sways(decrease body roll).

I have a 240sx, one friend with a classic se-r(91), and one friend with a NX2000(91).

For engien stuff, you are kind of limited, as you have a low port SR20, which can't use the same intakes as the highports(91-93). If you have the chance to get some high port cams, get them, as they are more aggresive and offer about 5-7whp when added to a low port.

Note: I may be mixing up highport and lowport...

Welcome to the nissan family, Se-Rs are great pocket rockets.

gogeeta13, you're right about the 94 being a lowport.

AntMan530: I only have a short shifter, ghetto homemade intake, and the SSAutochrome/OBX/Stone Racing header. The header makes a BIG difference in power. someone dyno'd it to gain 13 max hp over stock! I got in on a groupbuy to get this header for 150 bucks shipped, I don't know if you can still get that deal on the forums, but this header goes for 150 on ebay all the time.

the short shifter makes a big difference too. The stock shifter is like a damned truck's with longass throws. The short throw shifter makes driving a lot more fun.

And with 120K on the motor, you're just breaking her in! Mine only has 106K, and it pulls hard through all the gears. Many people have gotten 250k+ on their motors.

What you do have to watch for is the tranny. They're really fragile, especially 3rd gear. So put in some good tranny fluid. Red Line MT-90 is what I use, but other folks also like the Redline Shock Proof.

All this is on the sr20forum, so seeya over there!

On the tranny note, be very careful with 5th gear(patchy, did you mean 5th?). Double clutch(engage clutch in neutral, then disengage, then engage in 5th while rev matching) whenever possible. Also, when sitting in gear(in fact, all gears, but mostly 5th) leave your hand OFF the shifter. Over time, SR trannies develope 5th gear popout, which short of a new tranny, cannot be fixed. Redline Lightweight Shock Proof(wicked blue colored gear oil) would be my recomendation, as it has been proven to extend life on the SR tranny by use of people in teh SCCA Se-r cup.

I have a friend in columbus with 253k on his SE-R, it runs as strong as my friends with 109k on his.

i was talking about the many folks who, even on mildly modded engines, break 3rd gear just cuz it's fragile. The 5th gear popout issue is separate and is due to a shifter fork bending, or something like that.

a guy with a auto-X black se-r with black wheels, right?

i have a 93 se-r with long intake and anti-sway bars. imo the anti-sway bars don't do anything. but i got them for 20$ from ebay so it wasnt a big loss

edit: 110k miles now and no 5th gear pop-out in sight (knock on wood)

Neither of the people I am referring to in my post autoX, I do though, and there are a couple classics in my area (Cleveland) who do.
