Starting today, October 23rd, Verizon offers total of 1500 minutes and free long distance for only $29.95. You get 500 weekdays minutes, 1000 minutes on weeknights and weekends, as well as free long distance anywhere in continental US. The only thing is that after 3 months price goes up to $39.95, but that still not too bad.

do you know if only new customers can get this plan? I don't see this plan on their website.

This plan for existing customers as well. I saw an ad in Circuit City, called them today and they switched me in a matter of minutes. I'm in Arizona though.

Be carefull on this plan. I switched over to that plan for a month but, then found out that you don't get first incoming minute free. Biggest difference compared to most of their other plans. I racked up a bill of over $115. Luckly Verizon's customer service is good so they knocked off all the excess charges and allowed me to change back to my old plan. It's a good deal if you don't plan on using the first incoming mintues.

That's strange, since I do get first incoming minute free on that plan. I even confirmed that when I switched

I'd steer clear of Verizon. They inherited my AirTouch service (here in Atlanta) and then tried to tell me that I was on a two year contract when I attempted to cancel. I had to fax them my contract to avoid about $200 in charges. Now, I have a credit on my account that they won't return for 60-90 BUSINESS days. Pricks.

The more I think about it, the more that is ridiculous. I'm going to file a complaint with the Consumer Affairs department. That's just too long to hold my money.

Well I just tried to get the new plan through Verizon (formerly Airtouch) in Sacramento, CA. They didn't know anything about the plan and said different regions have different plans. :frown:

Are there any details about local toll calls?

Most of my family and friends are in-state, but not local, and Verizon has TERRIBLE local toll rates. We get hammered every month.

As soon as the cable company offers Internet access in my area, I'm dumping my phone lines altogether. Verizon can eat me.

I recently switched over to Verizon after being miserable with Sprint PCS for nearly two years. Suddenly I could receive digital calls in buildings (NE Ohio area) and never experience even an 1/8 of the problems I used to have with Sprint PCS. In contrast, my fiancee has Sprint PCS in the KC area and is completely pleased with the service. I guess it ultimately depends on your area what cellular provider is best - since it seems some are great in one place but suck eggs in another (and vice versa.)

Just my .02 about the Verizon comments...

Janus: I had the opposite experience -- went from Verizon to AT&T and now have much better reception and much better call integrity (no dropped calls, etc.). Cellular providers vary greatly depending on area. It's also unwise to lock yourself into a contract for more than a year for that reason -- one year isn't bad because you can always plug into a really low rate plan (AT&T goes down to $15) if you decide to change toward the end of the term.

Verizon's two year contract is ridiculous. Beware!

If anyone has any deals around the seattle area let me know. It seems like there are a lot here from Seattle so tell me what you found on cell phone deals. THanks

I got my plan through school (UCI) and I know that other UC schools have it (e.g. UCLA). Check to see if some organization near you offers it.

I got the $35 plan, with the first three months at $10 off. Also, by going through the school, I got an extra $10 per month. So, I ended up paying $15 for each of the first three months, and then $25 afterwards.

This is 500 weekend/NIGHTminutes, 100 (I think) anytime minutes, free mobile to mobile, first incoming minute free, and all the basics like voicemail, caller id, and call waiting. Good deal!

My .02, Verizon blows chunks, and the background music for their tv commercials are annoying as hell.

well I am really in need of a cell phone. I found that sprint pcs has as special that is something like 500 anytime minutes for 29.99. You can pretty much call anywhere in the state anytime it sounds like. Is there a better deal than this?? let me know..

Bellsouth has the 250 minutes for $35 a month. The minutes rollover and it's anytime/anywhere minutes.
