New VF900cu on 7900GT and crashes

So I went out and changed the stock cooler on my Leadtek 7900GT to a new vf900 with heatsinks and now each time I try to do an autodetect of max core and ram for OC... it makes it through one pass then slowly freezes and sends my monitor in an endless loop of what seems like changing resolutions where it goes blank and eventually it resets and reboots my comp and it comes back with a refresh rate of 60. Anyhow figure this out? I took it apart and reinstalled the compound and carefully assembled it again and the temperatures I keep watching and they never got over 35c (according to the Nvidia driver temp display).

I guess I can try to reinstall the stock fan and heatsink tonight but what a pain in the butt. I can still manage to oc the card manually by moving the sliders manually but when I first bought the card last week it would easily do the Autodetect for OC and never do this constant monitor refresh change and flashing.

Tried other tools like rivatuner on it? You could also set the skip-test bit there and just overclock without the stupid testing...
If the card works flawless otherwise I wouldn't care...but if the installation cracked the core, I would care

Man I can't get that Rivatuner to work properly in the sense that it does not recognize my card properly for now. I really don't think I cracked anything (sigh... sniff... /cry) at least I hope not but I will be interested in seeing if it all goes back to normal with the stock fan and h/s. I just wish I could figure out why it sends my stupid monitor to go nuts and start flashing and shutting off and on like I was testing resolution or refresh rates.

Rivatuner does not support 7900GT(X) so use powerstrip instead.

i have a vf900 on mine and i run it at 625/1950 in fear and oblivion no probs(when im not playin those its 560/1700). might wanna try usin powerstrip to OC and ATItool to detect stable overclock via artifat detection. Its what i use and never had a single problem with it. I actually have powerstrip set to load 7800gtx 512 speeds when windows boots (560/1700) and if im gonna play CS or an older game like that i keep it there. if im gonna play oblivion or fear or BF2 i load up 625/1950. Load temps never go above 49C and idle its usually at about 37-38C

Double check your installation of the VF900. If that fails, then reinstall your old HSF to see if the problem persists.
