Hey,
I just got a Geforce2 MX 400 64mb video card for my system.

I am running Windows 2000 and have the detenator drivers for my system. I am also using Gigabyte motherboard (GA-7...something) with an athlon xp 1800

For some reason when I play any 3d game (half life, max payne, etc) after a few minutes of play the game will just quit. I am not sure what is going on...

Do you have any suggestions or do you think its just a defective card?

Thanks a million!

Need more info... Eg:

Did u install SP2 for win2k? Which drivers are u using for ur MX card? Is ur mobo a VIA board? if so did u install VIA 4-in-1 drivers?

This is most likely not a hardware problem... just some driver issues probably...

Well I think I got the right drivers...

After a bunch of messing around I realized the card is pretty hot and so I opened up the case and put a normal household fan right next to it pointing towards the card and turned it on full blast.

Ever since I did that my games work fine. So, the card is obviously overheating.

The company I bought this from ocie.com seems a little sketchy.

Do you think it is a defective card? I really don't think the card should overheat so easily since I haven't even attempted to overclock it.

I am going to try and call the company tomorrow (they don't have a phone number on the website but I'm going to call the number under whois for their domain)

What is your advice?

Thanks again

It seems to be a sign of overheating. I had that problem before when I overclocked my CPU. (Broodwar game just quit after 30min playing, this is a 2D game) Check your heatsink and fan, you might need to blow dust off the heatsink. also check for anything that might cause the overheating (did your put it need your heater, bad air ventilation in the case, etc.) You also might want to reinstall Via 4-in-1 driver (if you have Via chipset), reinstall video card driver and probably reinstall the game, too.

You probably shouldn't be having heat-up problems, unless you're overclocking or have a ton of stuff
jammed into your case.

Could be there's something wrong with the card or something else. Is your p. supply getting real hot?

I run a T-bird 1Ghz on a gigaybte 7DX board, w/Geforce 2 Ti and 3 pci cards (sound, modem, dvd decoder).
Also zip drive and DVD-rom. The only fan I have is the fan on the P. Supply and I never have any
problems; I ran 3dmark 5 times in a row and my CPU never got over 47 deg and the sys. board never got
higher than 29 deg. The system board did come w/ a little heatsink and fan on the chipset, though. And
the vid card (just got it) came with a fan on the GPU. Does yours have a fan? Maybe you could put one on
it to help.

OCIE is a distributor of products, not a manufacturer. They sell alot of Inno3d (Innovision). What card do
you have? Maybe you can contact them. Don't know if that will help, though. It could.

I'd check out the drivers again, too. You should probably download the latest from nVidia.

Or buy a couple a casefans, so you can overclock the crap out of everything

That's what I'm doing next!

Thanks everyone, I think I am going to return the card for a new one since the bag was obviously opened (anti static bag seal was broken) and it is obviously overheating. I have a pretty huge case.

I haven't been turning on my housefan lately though and Counterstrike seems to be working fine*. The case is still wide open.
*I do get random white flashes on the screen when I play.

Cross your fingers for me for when I get a new once back.

Thanks all!
