New Video Card or Not?

I run a P4T533-C with a P4 3.06 Hyper Thread enabled, and 1 Gb of R800 RAMBUS.

I don't plan on upgrading that part for some time.

I use a ViewSonic PF790, 1280x1024 @ 85 Hertz, but plan on an upgrade to a ViewSonic flat panel in the near future.

I don't play any 3D games at all.

I do a lot of digital video capture, edit, encode and burn, and the regular web surfing, email, etc.

I currently have an ASUS Ti-4200/128.

Is there a better video card for me, something with better 2D?

Budget is around $150 US

If you don't play games, why in the name of god would you need to upgrade? Give the $150 to charity or something. A faster card won't help with the things that you do. Save your money.

I didn't say I wanted anything faster.

I'm thinking there might be a better choice for the work I do.

The 3D card I have now seems to be overkill.

The radeon 9200 cards are supposed to have excellent 2D quality for their price. And, if you wanna spend some more money for the best, matrox videocards are second to none in 2D quality.

Matrox cards are the video card of choice for professional digital video editing.

there is no reason to upgrade, an ATI card will give you about the same IQ in 2d, maxtor will be slightly better but not enough to warrent an upgrade IMO

I mainly use my computer for video editing, and I like my Matrox G550, though not a new card, because of the dual monitors. Some newer cards allow for three. I use my DV deck to connect to a TV for my third monitor.

if you are looking for 2d image quality, ATI nor nvidia can hold a candle to matrox, the only problem is matrox can be a little expensive but i would check into matrox anyway.
