I wanted to "upgrade" from my old 27" 1080p IPS 60hz monitor. Really wanted to try out freesync and 144hz. Snagged up one of the new Viewsonic XG2402's and it looks like absolute garbage.

I spent about 2 hours last night adjusting settings and using ones suggested for the old XG2401. No matter what it just looks so washed out compared to my old cheap IPS panel.

Is there something I am just not getting right? Do TN panels really just look this crappy?

I have already got it boxed back up and a return lined up just have to drop it off at ups later.

What should I go for? I only spent $230 so maybe my expectations were too high but I guess I need to pony up about $400+ to get what im looking for.

Any suggestions? I also think ill go ahead and upgrade to 2560x1440 over getting another 1080p on the next one.

-24" or 27"
-2560x1440
-Freesync with decent range
-144hz if possible
-Something besides TN if they all look this bad

Thanks!

Why would I pay the premium for G-Sync when I have an AMD gpu with no plans of switching to Nvidia?

And im willing to spend more that I did on the xg2401 but not that much more. About 400 usd is what im looking to spend...

I just bought this exact monitor from that exact B&M last week. I have a GTX970 so I can't use FreeSync, but other than that it looks great.

I did have to exchange it once as my first unit had some bad IPS glow and some BLB, but the 2nd one is very livable.

Id hate to have to do an exchange like you because microcenter is about 1hr each way for me. But I may just give it a gamble. Thanks for your input!

MicroCenter was great about it, they offered to let me set the 2nd one up in the store before I even left (although I did not accept... did not have time). I bet if you ask they will let you do it too.

You might want to look into a Nixeus EDG27. It's one of the cheaper 1440p/144Hz IPS monitors with a Freesync range of 30-144Hz. I guess there's also the Pixio New PX277 which also has a range of 30-144Hz and uses a revision of the same panel with slim bezels which supposedly has less backlight bleed.

I had already looked into both of those. Hated the way the Nixeus looked but was interested by it being a supposedly US based company? And the Pixio looks okay but the fear of support after sale if I was to have an issue scared me away. I ended up following Tweak155's lead and drove down to microcenter this morning and got a xf270hu.

I cant believe I got this much monitor for the money. It as expected absolutely blows the xg2402 out of the water. It also put to shame my old Asus 27" 1080p 60hz monitor mostly I feel due to a greatly improved ppi and the 144hz.

Freesync seems to work fine? Ive only tried out world of warcraft and it feels much smoother with no screen tearing that was very apparent if you spun your character around very quickly with the 60hz panel with no adaptive refresh.

I also literally just plugged it in and lowered the brightness to 30 and it looks great to me. Dont even feel like I need to mess with it any more.

Backlight bleed seems non existant? I have tons of windows in my house though and will check again tonight when I can get the room nice and dark and screen devoid of glare.

Thabks Tweak155 for the push towards this monitor I am beyond satisfied in the hour or two ive used it thus far.
