Honestly, the Omega Seamaster is my first choice in watches, but I couldn't purchase it. My mom and dad asked me not to purchase it because they want to buy me the Omega as present for when I graduate law school.

I did check out the Monaco but I really want feeling it... I also liked the Tag Link... but wanted soemthing with a little more racing flare... so in the end... the Carrera won me over...

For future reference . . . Personally I am a used-watch guy, hence the link. Also, there are authorized dealers who will sell Omegas at a 38% discount - I think you could have gotten a Speedmaster for less than that Heuer.

The Speedys are available with either a sapphire or Hesalite (essentially acrylic plastic) crystal. The latter are actually usually more prized on the used market. Hesalite is much more shockproof than sapphire, it gives the watch a nice vintage look, and, unlike sapphire or mineral glass, it can be repaired - scratches to Hesalite are easily buffed out. The crystal can be replaced with sapphire if the owner prefers.

I don't think I got ANYTHING for graduating from law school, other than student loan debt - your parents are generous folks!

My friend got the Omega from there. It's authentic. However, only 2 year warranty on movement and battery.

yeah, getting my band polished and/or replaced for free was key for me.

i can stop by anytime and have them polish it up to remove scratches... and if i gouge it real bad and its not fixable they will replace the band for free. this was very important to me which is why purchased it from tourneau... its more expensive but the customer service is phenomenal.

Dude, could you possibly post a bigger closeup pic of your hairy arm? Jeez, we really didn't need to see that.

I think the most I ever spent on a watch was $500...and I almost never wear it. That would be a colossal waste of money for me.

I wouldn't bother. That watch will have at least 45-50 hours of power reserve, so it will keep running unless you drawer it for an extended period. Winders are expensive, and many (including many costly ones) can seriously damage your watch.

lol.. you could buy 10 seiko's for that price!

or 2800 timex watches in chinatown!

And the ironic thing is that the timex is more accurate than your $2800 watch.

People at work who wear $12 Timexes = tools. Sorry, you don't have to spend a lot to show a little class.

You could also buy 20 Montgomery Ward's suits for the cost of a Brioni, or 10 Hyundai Elantras for the price of a Ferrari 430M (and, like the Timexes you mention, they'll be a lot more reliable than the Ferrari). For that matter, you could buy 20 of the OP's watch for the cost of a high-end Lange & Sohne.

My point isn't that you're wrong, it's that your priorities don't control every other person. As it happens I have a nice collection of various fairly eclectic watches that most here could consider expensive, yet all of them together cost only about the same as the OP's watch. I enjoy them, but at some point I might decide to ditch all of them and buy a Rolex, or, for that matter, ditch them all and buy a used car for my cousin. It's my money to do what I want with, and the OP is in the same situation.

DonVito: question... do you wind your automatic watches before wearing them?

edit... wow, called their csr number and they explained that it good to wind it before wearing it everymoning, but its not necessary. every two to three days should be suffiecient after the initial charging procedure.

Nice watch!

I have an older Tag auto chrono that I bought new. According to the jeweler who last serviced it, it was around ten years old when I bought it 15 years ago making it around 25 years old. But old doesn't always mean bad.

If they haven't been worn in a while I will give them a wind, but if you're just talking about putting them on in the morning, no. As it happens only 3 of my automatic watches are hand-windable, so the rest I gently shake in a circular motion for a minute or so if I haven't worn them in some time.

Since its not your newborn baby, I feel free to say that is a damn ugly watch. Did it come with horned rimmed glasses and a pocket protector as well? I'm surprised a clunky watch like that sports a sleek name like 'carrera'. I'm assuming its in reference to what it has 'under the hood' because it's certainly not based on the physical dimensions. Maybe people find that classy or sophisticated, but it looks to me that it's appeal is that it comes with a keg of beer and a zippo lighter.

Seriously, whether its 10k or $20 from the ny street corners, its all the same...ugly knows no price but it knows this watch.

Jeez, I can't see being SO negative. It essentially looks like your average sporty black-faced chronograph - to me it's attractive, and I can't imagine anyone thinking it's very ugly. What watches do you find attractive?
