The only expensive watch that even tempted me was an HP-01 I tried on a couple years ago at an antique dealer. It was so awesome but the keyboard rubber had aged to the point that the buttons wouldn't return. If it had worked I'd be a poorer but richer man today.

But do you drive an M3?

Why yes he does. He drives it over his Rolex every morning just for laughs. The unblemished Rolex slides neatly over his wrist, whilst reflecting his beauty out into the world for all to admire.

Don't be stupid, I spent all my money on the watch, so I take the bus.

Bus sounds so pedestrian, let us say "silver limousine" or "coach".

"My coach has pulled up to the gate" sounds much better than "My bus is here."

I have an M3 and fervently hope that one of my clients buys me a Rolex this year. He bought one (a Yacht Master) for my partner for Christmas last year, so I can hope! I will be lobbying for a bog-standard Submariner in stainless. I would then probably sell all my other nice watches (or at least my two Omegas) and put the money in savings.

But don't blame me for this thread!

I acknowledge Alky's existence and importance.

My house is on tatooine and my car is a space ship.

Also psychology is anthropology with numbers.

But if that's the case, buying a $500 replacement every year makes no sense whatsoever. You could buy a quality diver from Omega or Rolex that would stand up to that abuse and hold its value, or you could (as most people would) either buy a G-Shock or an inexpensive (~$150) but attractive diver from Seiko or Invicta, with the intent of replacing it as often as you broke one (which you would be hard pressed to do). The Skyhawk doesn't even have a sapphire crystal - that mineral glass is very easy to scratch and can't be buffed out.

I really don't understand this.

I used to wear very expensive watches and they do not hold up any better. When I worked in a bank and wasn't IT/IS my watches never even got scratched much over 5 year intervals. It's usually not the crystals that get messed up for me, it's the bezels and crown/etc. Bands I will usually replace.

I wasn't happy with the Mineral Crystal, but Citizen has a Sapphire option for about $75 with shipping to them including the labor.

Eventually I will probably buy myself a nice evening watch.

If you are taking clients around town, you really should step up to the larger M5 and wear a Patek Calatrava.

The Rolex Submariner is too gauche (especially with a Suit) and the M3 is for the younger set.

Yeah but he lives for free. Trump does it every so often.

lol, really doesn't have much to do with that. I bought my wife's Tag and most of the other stuff while I was paying it.

The mortgage was only $2200, not really crippling.

I tend to keep my watches around $500 or less since I need to replace them each year. My Seiko was not even a year old yet.

Listen to this whoreshit... LOL, WTF are you doing to your watches that they only last a year? Are you a septic tank pumper?

My first Rolex will be for my wife. She has her eye on a white gold model that will take me a while since it's over $25k

I don't really have M5 money - I have a 6-year-old 330i and a 10-year-old M3 which I mostly bought as a track/weekend toy. They each have only about 40,000 miles so I am not looking to replace either in the immediate future. I really don't ever take clients in my car anyway. My partners drive a 2008 A8, a 2007 S6, and a ~2000 Honda CR-V, so my 330i puts me somewhere in the middle.

I most definitely don't have Calatrava money, nor do I love the design. I think if I were looking to buy a dress watch after a good year at work I'd buy a JLC Master Ultra Thin. Personally I have no problem wearing a diver with a suit, though I seldom don a suit. I have taken to using my Railmaster for all around daily wear, because it works with jeans or with a suit.
