new widescreen monitor

well, after long nights of looking, comparing and reading reviews of 20.1 monitors I decide to buy this one

what card do I need to play new games like oblivion (and I pre-order "pray" )on this monitor¿? thanks in advance

i would get at least a 7600GT, if not a 7900GT.

actually, a 7900GT would be good for you, if you dont want to spend too much money (only aroun $250). also, the X1800XT (256MB or 512MB i forget) i also at a similar price.

if u have an x1800xt then ur fine. if u mistyped and meant x800 then you need an upgrade. i wouldnt go with anything lower than a 7900gt or an x1800xt 512mb. anything better than those only helps u out more

I can play Oblivion quite nicely on my system, but I need to scale the resolution down to 1440 x 900. The game scales well and still looks great at that resolution. I have tried playing at 1680 x 1050 and its playable, but not as smooth as the lower resolution. I did mod my Oblivion to use shorter grass.

I'm not sure how fast your X800 is compared to my X800GTO2, which is overclocked to near X850 speeds, but as long as you don't mind playing at 1440 x 900 (or even 1280 x 800) you should be OK.

if u have an x1800 xt or better,u'll be fine.But i guess u mis-typed.So i suggest u get something like an x1900 gt(those play oblivion better than the 7900 gt)or and x1800 xt 512mb(the extra memory makes a difference.)

if your widescreen monitor runs natively at 1680x1050, you can scale it down to 1440x900 or 1280x800? i thought that couldnt be done with lcd monitors?

u can scale donw almost any LCd, just looks horrible (compared to native res anyway).

quite a lot of games actually.Age of empires,FEAR,quake 4,oblivion etc...

The windows desktop looks like crap, but games usually scale fine - at least Oblivion scales nicely, as so all FPS games. Also, widescreen 20" LCDs scale quite well due to their smaller pixel size (compared to 19" LCDs).
