New Winchester stepping???

Hi,
just received my A64 3000+ today and was surprised to find the following specs:
ADA3000DIK4BI (the usual)
LBBID <--- now, what is that???
0512APMW (so yeah, it's pretty darn new)

Google won't turn up anything and nobody seems to know about it.

Anybody got a clue what to make of this and how good I'll be able to overclock it? I hope I'll get my mainboard tomorrow (A8V) to run some tests but until then I'd like to know what I'm dealing with.

Be interesting to hear how it overclocks. Never heard of LBBID. CBBHD were probably the best overclockers, CBBID were some of the worst... CBBFD were decent... hopefully the LBBID is a BIG improvement on the CBBID.

Quite the contrary, my 3000+ CBBID has trouble even hitting 2.2Ghz with 1.60v. And if you look around it's one of the worst steppings.

Ooops... mixed em up... I'll fix it. BTW... do you run into a wall with HTT around 240?

Hehe, in case you meant me, I bought it at Fun Computer Center (Germany).

Right now I'm trying to catch up what changed since last time I got into overclocking (which was a 1700+@2040 on an A7V) since apparently just increasing the FSB (or HTT as they call it nowadays) just doesn't cut it anymore. I bought some MDT CL2.5 and the A8V and I hope I get something out of it (not expecting as much as the 30% I got from the A7V), though I am not sure at all what settings to use.

OC that chip, it may prove to overclock better than the CBBID steppings. People with FSB walls on their CBBID chips have gotten a bad memory controller. According to something I read at xtremesystems.org forums, you have a 6/10 chance of getting a good memory controller if you are buying a new winchester. I guess I got a good memory controller though, because I am running at 285 fsb without any trouble.

how do you know if you got a bad memory controller? are there any software to test it out, cause i can't seem to run dual channel on my epox 9nda3j and i'm not sure if its the mobo or my cpu. thanks

There are no tests, but if you cant use dual channel at all, I woudl blame the board. Usually a bad memory controller just limits how high you can overclock your memory....but ive never seen one so bad you cant use the memory at its stock rated speeds. Are you sure your timings arent set to agressive? What memory is it?

Just got the shipping confirmation a couple of hours ago (10pm my time), wonder if it'll be here tomorrow.

Too bad I had to order now, otherwise I'd have preferred the Venice as well (together with PCIe instead of AGB, but I can't afford a new graphic card right now). OTOH now I will wait until affordable dual core (or more) CPUs are out.

its the pny bravo 50 ddr 333. i can set the timings to 3,5,5,15 2t and it still will not run dual channel in any ram slot combination. i figured it was my board that was bad too. well i guess its time to save up to buy the dfi ultra d.
