Are there any new features or modifications to WinXP's kernal? New memory management features? Better thread scheduling? More stable? (I like the little message feature in Task Manager, its neat! - Too bad I have no need for it, yet)
And networking.. Whats new here? Any changes to the TCP/IP stack? I noticed NetBEUI is no longer included, what gives?
What about security?
I like the new ICF (Internet Connection Firewall).. Seems pretty secure with basic testing (IE, www.grc.com reports the system as stealth). Not sure if this firewall blocks out going traffic (Just checked with www.grc.com's leaktest, ICF failed, the program could connect to www.grc.com without question). Somone said they couldnt connect to IRC with the firewall working.. I didnt try myself, but I think you could probably open a port for it to work..
Windows Media Player (WMP) 8.0 is pretty nice. Seems nice and stable after running it daily for a over a week now.. Has some nice features, and version 8 of their codecs seem nice. I havent tried encoding anything with them yet, so I dont know what the speed is like..
What about file encryption for files stored on the harddisk. What benefit does this have? Is this new to XP? New with NTFS 5.1?
Other then the fancy graphics, and other stuff mentioned above, whats interesting about XP?
