So I got my new setup:
AMD x2 3800 on DFI lanparty nforce4 utlra-d with 1Gb ram( 2x512 OCZ 4001024PDC-K ).
So I decided to test the new system with a few stress tests..

I ran BurninTest, sandra, 3dmark05, everything passes or seems ok.

then I get to prime95 and try the torture test on both cores.. and within a minute both cores will fail, something with "illegal sumout" or rounding error. I tried differnet options: Blend/custom/in place large ffts. They all fail. The only one I can run is the Small FFT's.

Seems like it would be a memory problem, but I ran memtest for a while too. is this a big enough of a problem to need a RMA? Oh yea.. this is all on stock speeds :-(

Its obviously a dud chip. No use for it. I don't even think AMD will accept an RMA for it....

Theres only one solution. Ship it to me and i'll take that peice of junk off of your hands for free!

Good one Hacp...

Actually the DFI boards have been finicky and you really need to make sure you have the right bios and memory settings set.....

Are you making sure you set affinity on the P95 runs?? 1 core for each instance???

Why dont you tell us about your heat and vcore....You probably have auto set but on some boards that could be a sizeable undervolting going on....Mine at auto will set my vcore to 1.29v and that is .06v under stock. If my chip was not so great I could see where it could have issues at stock speed....May look at CPU_Z and see actual vcore that is bing deliver at idle and then load....May have to bump it up a notch to compensate what the board may be depriving it of...

Are you sure CPU-Z vcore reportings are accurate? It says 1.4 for me when I have it reading 1.43 in bios at bootup.

Yea, I set the affinity. I left everything in the bios to auto bascially. from CPUz i get:
idle voltage: 1.312
on full load it sometimes goes to : 1.35
sometimes when i open cpuz on full load its 1.312 still.

Temperature:
idle around low 30's full load gets into the mid 40's

I would bump it .05 if you can and try again...

What are the rest of your system specs??? PSU???

Like I mentioned before i have heard of ppl having issues at stock with DFI boards...very finicky on the settings....

im using antec truepower 2 480w.., msi 6600gt and i just slapped in an audigy2 sound card.

im very newb to this.. do i just go into the bios.. and manually change the voltage to 1.312+0.05=1.362? right now its on auto.

maybe cpu-z was buggy before, im still at full load and it seems to be permanantly at 1.312 now. this is confirmed using the smartguardian tool on the dfi cd.. it also shows cpu at 1.31v.

I am not sure on your options outside of auto...But set it manually to 1.35v and then boot and see if it is still 1.31v...then reboot and set it to 1.4v and it should get you around 1.36v and then test it on prime95.....

ii set it at like 1.37 shows up as 1.344 on cpuz, but so far so good.. been like 10 minutes and i havnt gotten any errors in prime yet.. new record
should I be concerned with the higher voltage? more heat?

This is actualy Duvie...I am at Marks house...

Glad to see that works for you...the added vcore at the lower end will have little consequences...I wouldn't worry...

I would be concerned if at stock speed you were loading mid 50's to high 60s....I have an XP90 and at my stock 2.2ghz with 1.36v I only hit 44c load...
