Pulled this new XBox package promotion off of yahoo biz. Searched and didn't see it already listed, so hopefully not a repost.

Xbox
Star Wars: Clone Wars
Tetris Worlds Live
2 months XBox Live free

$179.99

The package won't officially be out until mid-October, but some retailers are already going to package it, though I don't know how they will package the Live service.

The current bundle at Walmart for 179 is also a good one. Splinter cell and Mech Warrior.

The Xbox must still cost too much to discount any further, so they give you two sorry games and a trial subscription to a service that nets them more money if people forget to cancel. Not a bad idea on their part.

How are Splinter Cell and Mechassault "sorry" games? Unless you're talking about Clone Wars and Tetris, but even then.

I was referring to the Microsoft bundle that the original poster posted, not the Walmart bundle. Its ok if you don't have an xbox already, but it really shouldn't cause too many people to run out and buy an Xbox.

So Clone Wars is a lousy game?

Thanks for the bundle info. Two weeks ago I purchased an XBOX and Soul Caliber II as a gift for my niece and nephews, but I fault MS for not releasing the "correct" bundle for me to get one myself. The Walmart deal seems pretty good, but it could use some tweaking.

Nintendo had the Mario and Zelda games as their prime games. Mario was later bundled.
Sega used to have Sonic and the sports games as their prime games. Sonic came bundled.
Sony had Final Fantasy, GT and GTA as their prime games. No bundling on PS2 except GT edition.

What is/was the prime game for the XBOX? Halo.

If Microsoft bundled Halo plus any other game (could even be a bad one) with the XBOX at $179.99, then they would get buyers like me converting from the PS2 in droves. The fact that they have kept the Halo price at $49.9x just seems greedy. Sure they might be losing money on the platform, but the Halo should at-lease be in the Platinum Hits (or whatever it's called) for $19.99. This is just my opinion.

And Halo 2 isn't far from coming out (another year?)

they do need a new flagship game... we'll see, althouhg KOTOR is amazing (for a couple plays atleast)

you can usually find halo for $34.95 at circuit city which is still not as low as $19.99 but much better than $49.9x

Not so much that its lousy, but there are much better games out there that they could have offered (like the Walmart bundle mentioned above).

My original point was regarding how Microsoft would rather throw in some games rather than reduce the price. I much rather see a price cut if I were shopping for a console, and let me choose my own games. It's been well known since the Xbox debuted that Microsoft loses money on each console sold. I would expect them to avoid a price cut for as long as possible. If they had cut it to $149 then it would be an additional $30 a console lost. In this case they offer two games that aren't exactly bestsellers (and really don't cost MS anything) and are still able to charge the same price.

and 2 months free of Xbox Live is just another way to get more money from customer since they will most likely sign up or "keep" the xbox live account.

Yeah, if they had bundled the xbox with Halo in the first place they probably would have gotten alot better sales.

They would be very smart to bundle it with Halo 2, but it'll never happen.

First of all, of course that's why they do it. They don't make the XBOX out of the goodness of their hearts, they do it to make money, and they will do whatever they can to reduce their costs. Secondly, I think it's interesting that you're complaining about getting 2 free games at $180, considering that when it came out the console alone was $300 without ANY games. If you're truly that against buying something you don't want buy just the console from someone on eBay. Thirdly, your statement that the included games don't cost them anything isn't true either, since obviously they (Microsoft) would be paying the developers for those copies. Not trying to step on you, but you just seem very negative about what most people consider to be a really good deal for an awesome game system. I don't see Sony offering 2 free games and a PS2 for $180.

Not really complaining about the two free games as it's a good deal if you are looking for an Xbox, but I don't think this is the Hot Deal that people were expecting this fall. Many were expecting the rumored $149.99 price. If I were going to buy an Xbox (which I'm not, already own two), I wouldn't wait until October for this bundle.

I agree, the SC + MechAssault is the better of the two at the moment, but once the Walmart promo is over, the new bundle is looking good.

Halo might not be their featured game anymore (debatable) but it's still top 5 in sales every week. Everywhere I go it's always sold out or there's only a few copies left, simply because everyone that buys an XBox gets the game

'Xbox live' is bundled with several games now, including Fever 2004. The trick is that its only two months of service and doesn't include the headset.
