That is a common theme I've seen over the last few years. I personally know of 4 people who went back and got their MBAs and none of them have advanced. At least in the case of two of them, they company paid 100% of it and they were only out their time. The third guy had a portion of it paid by the company and is in like $30K of debt.
Yeah, there always seems to be difficulty "growing" out of your role in an organization with just more education. I'm assuming you have been applying for another position within the same organization? Once you settle into a role that everybody seeing you do well, it's hard to break out of it. You have to portray yourself being good in another role - and perception, I've learned, is the majority of what makes up your reputare at work.
