That is a common theme I've seen over the last few years. I personally know of 4 people who went back and got their MBAs and none of them have advanced. At least in the case of two of them, they company paid 100% of it and they were only out their time. The third guy had a portion of it paid by the company and is in like $30K of debt.

Yeah, there always seems to be difficulty "growing" out of your role in an organization with just more education. I'm assuming you have been applying for another position within the same organization? Once you settle into a role that everybody seeing you do well, it's hard to break out of it. You have to portray yourself being good in another role - and perception, I've learned, is the majority of what makes up your reputare at work.

I haven't actually applied within any company I've worked at with one exception, and I didn't get that job. At my last company, our HR department accused my boss of "holding me back" and keeping me in my position because I was so good at it.

I think I will start applying for higher-level positions at other companies just to see if I can get interviews.

Already exhausted my opportunities. Micron doesnt want me and all the restaurant & fast food jobs are basically closed to me.
Am shit out of luck. Over qualified for the crappy jobs and not quite perfect for the good jobs. I'll try looking again when school is out in April.

Probably not, unless something internal pops up in my area. Want to finish my Masters (assuming I passed my courses this term), might take a few months off to expedite the process.

I'm hoping my company gets sold in 2011 and they pay me six figures to "leave"

Yes. In a whole different field though. I'm not like my parent's generation where you should stay at one job and place for +25 years. I like to try out new things and expand a bit more.

Good luck - hopefully you have good people networking skills as according to this - 80% of the jobs aren't posted:

Could it be true? Is searching for a position on job board a complete waste of time? According to an article posted on the WSJ website, landing a job posted on a job board just might be a crapshoot. Minneapolis-based CollegeRecruiter.com founder Steven Rothberg says more than 80 percent of job openings are actually unlisted. This means job hunters have to be savvy searchers with excellent networking and researching skills to score an unlisted job.

Because 80 percent of employers “will try to promote from within or rely on employee referrals,” there are several things job seekers must if they want a shot at an unlisted job:
