I have not read the whole thread, and don't think it's legal. But didn't it just happen and what the thread should of been about?

No, that's not what happened. That's why I want the people that are making wild accusations to explain themselves and the laws because it's clear they don't know them.

person to person sale = no background check

In most states, a private person may sale a firearm to another person and without a background check.

Been to a gun show lately? There are usually lots of people walking around the show with a "for sale" sign on their firearm, no background check needed.

Even if the government stopped private person-to-person sales at gun shows, have you read the paper lately? I can pick up a local newspaper and see at least a dozen people trying to sale their firearms.

If background checks are enforced for all firearm sales, will we need checks to give firearms as gifts? Would I be able to give my brother a new Remington 870 for Christmas, without first running a background check on him?

If criminals can get illegal drugs across the border, the government can not stop illegal weapons.

I can tell you right now that with my 3" pocket knife and relatively minimal training I could kill you in seconds. With a baton or baseball bat I could do even better. Man up to that HAL.

Any untrained street thug could without much practice. The difference between you and me is I'd shoot the person before they even got withing reach while you'd be dead, brain damaged, or otherwise severely injured.

Maybe the real problem is that New York has an agenda that is against the freedom of united states citizens, and in opposition to the right of gun ownership in the US Constitution. Downright unamerican. If people buy guns somewhere else and bring them into the area of New York, they are just exercising their rights under the constitution. You probably dont have to go that far to buy a gun from New York City.

So you got lucky. This was outside a pub, was he drunk? Were you in much better shape than him? How did the fight go? How large was the knife? Details man.

All I know is during sparring sessions with practice knives (about 6" simulated blade length) I've gone up against people with superior training in knife defense and managed to land some pretty mean strikes about 1/3 of the time. And they of course kicked my ass almost completely.

I didn't say having a knife or bat makes you invincible, just that it's as much of a lethal weapon as a gun if employed to that end, and that it doesn't take much experience to do so.

I could also make the valid statement that the survivors of the Arizona shooting got lucky in the same fashion. The guy had <50&#37; accuracy. That means he shot at people and missed. That doesn't mean guns aren't lethal to those people, they just got lucky.
