In most states, a private person may sell a firearm to another person and without a background check.

Been to a gun show lately? There are usually lots of people walking around the show with a "for sale" sign on their firearm, no background check needed.

Even if the government stopped private person-to-person sales at gun shows, have you read the paper lately? I can pick up a local newspaper and see at least a dozen people trying to sale their firearms.

I've bought handguns in sporting goods stores, at gun shows, and even in a private home, but because I was dealing with licensed, law abiding dealers each time, I completed the background check paperwork and a background check was performed. It doesn't matter where the sale takes place; if you're buying from a licensed dealer, there's going to be a background check.

That's why I wanted those spouting off nonsense to describe the laws because they seem to think you can just go to any gun show and buy a weapon from a booth/dealer without a background check.

If the police were legally obligated to protect individuals in the US then the police would be financially responsible for not doing so and police officers, police departments and local governments would go bankrupt over night dealing all the lawsuits filed by victims of crime. Or worse go bankrupt trying to provide enough officers to "stop ALL crime, All the time" by employing a huge massive army of police officers and staff to meet such an unobtainable obligation.
