If the police were legally obligated to protect individuals in the US then the police would be financially responsible for not doing so and police officers, police departments and local governments would go bankrupt over night dealing all the lawsuits filed by victims of crime. Or worse go bankrupt trying to provide enough officers to "stop ALL crime, All the time" by employing a huge massive army of police officers and staff to meet such an unobtainable obligation.
Oh yeah, suing. That doesn't really happen over here that often, and the UK are not financially responsible for that over here. It's crazy over there.
