Agree. What Trump did was not illegal. It should be blamed on the tax code that allows him and many others; conservative & liberal alike to do likewise.

When it comes time for everybody here to do their taxes next year, each and everyone here is going to take every deduction, tax credit etc... available to them. Those that know how to are going to structure their income properly to avoid as much taxation as legally possible and if you can get away with paying zero taxes legally, so be it.

Nobody here is such a good samaritan that they are going to pay as much tax as possible.

He either fucked up and lost 1 billion dollars in a single year, or as he now claims he, in a stroke of genius, purposefully lost that money so he could later manipulate the tax code to get out of paying taxes. Brilliant strategy. Is that what he'll do for America? Bankrupt our way to greatness?

The best part of this which no one seems to be talking about is the fact that there's no guarantee that was even his money he lost and is thus using to avoid taxes for each subsequent year. It could easily have been funds borrowed from the bank or investors which he is taking against himself.

Again no way to know since he won't show his actual tax documents. But he is very open about being all about OPM (other peoples money).

Look at what Christie did to NJ state pensions.

Then look at Trump's track record with other people's money.

Is this what we want with our social security, medicare and other things?

I read through all 8 pages of the thread so far. I didn't see it asked...is it illegal for the NY Times to release Trump's tax returns? Was it an illegal act committed by the person(s) who sent Trump's tax returns to the NY Times?

I believe the news is covered by such items because they are news worthy. The person leaking the document may have committed a crime but I heard if its something they do for their job like a Trump accountant they may not have committed a crime. The second question is a tough one because it really depends how they acquired the document.

1. maybe, but Trump would have to admit the tax returns are true or prove them wrong to actually sue the NY Times

2. it depends on who leaked them and how they were obtained... the popular guess is Marla Maples, his wife at the time. since her name is on the forms, it would be perfectly legal for her to release her own tax returns.

No it is not illegal for the Times to print them. First they are protected by the first amendment and second the claims that they broke a law refer to a federal law governing federal returns, not the state ones that were leaked.

If NYT didn't print them, they would be on WikiLeaks anyways. Assange is desperate to show he is not a Trump shill.

How the hell does an individual even lose a billion in a year?

In Brewster's Millions Richard Pryor only had to blow through thirty million in a month. Apparently that would be no problem for Trump.

It's merely done on paper using the relative value of assets.

I could have done it a day. Just hire the most beautiful supermodels and actresses to have sex with me. I am sure that it would cost the full 30 million and probably much much more and I would definitely have gotten full value for my money. Brewster wasn't thinking too well.

Thanks for the replies. I was just more curious than anything else. There are enough biased sites that come out and say it was illegal. I had my doubts about it being illegal. The spin machines are in motion this week.

What does that have to do with whether or not Trump needs more advantages?

See, you're demonstrating exactly my point. You can't really argue why people like Trump need more advantages when they can already avoid taxes for decades now.

JFC, only at ATP&N is losing $900 million an "advantage'.

It is disgusting to hear how "genius" Donald Trump is, how he knows the complex tax laws better than anyone and is the only one who can fix the system, or how he has fiduciary duty to employees (ha!) to avoid paying taxes, etc. What will they say when the other shoe drops and Trump's illegal activities are exposed? There are still 34 days to go until the election day.

lol love the faux indignation. Straight forward yes or no answer. Is it possible that the money lost belonged to banks and investors and he himself didn't lose anything? If that is possible and he in turn takes those losses actually bore by others and offsets his own personal income is that not advantageous?

Is that scenario not perfectly legal and plausible?

That's not really the point. The point is that when Amazon paid $273 million in taxes on $600 million in profits in 2015, Trump said (and I do quote), "Amazon is getting away with murder tax-wise," and that if he were elected President, "They're going to have such problems." But now we find that Trump doesn't pay any taxes himself, and "that makes me smart."
Seriously, how do you support this lying hypocritical douchebag?

Then, when Trump insinuates fraud, should he loose, that should really get you guys nervous.
His line of thinking would be "If I can win this by fraud, it just shows how brilliant I am - the system is flawed and who better to fix it than me(cause im a fraud)"

Good thing Google, Apple, Facebook or NYT aren't running for President.

But you bring up good points just in a weird twisted I hate Hillary way. There really needs to be an AMT like tax for big businesses.
