Newb again!

Ok, I've been out the loop for years and still think any Geforce is ready to run the latest games. Fast forward 4 years later from 2003, with the help of my time machine I figured I need a new video card.

I'm running a P4 3 ghz with 2.5 gigs of ram, and last but no least a Geforce FX5200 that has 128 mb of ram. I work for a video game company and tried running the games at home and its real choppy.

What is a good video card to do gaming, software (CS2) and to go along with my 24 inch monitor ($299 soyo deal)?

Please help, I need this ASAP.

Forgot to add I only have an AGP slot and PCI slots.

Your system specs are nearly identical to my current pc ^_^

An X1950 XT/pro or 7800 GS are among the higher end AGP cards still left on the market today. However their functioning ability depends just as much on your power supply's power output and amps on the 12V rail.

My Dell 8300 has that problem, and that's what is preventing me from upgrading my own graphics card (current a X850 Pro).

If you plan on gaming at native resolution on your 24 inch moniter the only option in an AGP card is the X1950XT ... the fastest Nvidia option is the rare XFX 7950GT AGP which is substantially slower in just about every game & the real problem is neither of these cards is going to be priced reasonably.

If you have a skt 775 P4 you would be much better off grabbing a new PCI-E motherboard & a $200 +/- 8800GT ... this option will cost a bit more money but will hammer either of the above choices in both performance & IQ both of which I'd think would be very important in your line of work.

Veos, I too have the Dell 8300. What shall I do to upgrade or should i go with Captante's suggestion?
