I got my new system put together, but when I plug it in and turn it on, the HSF, the video card fan and the PS fan start spinning, but nothing else happens. No beeping, no boot screen, no nothing. Just fans spinning.

This is what I have installed:
Intel E6300
Gigabyte 965P-DS3
OCZ 800mhz platinum memory
eVGA 7900 GT
Antec Sonata w/ 450w PS

I don't have the hard drive or DVD drive hooked up yet. At first it wouldn't even power on, because I didn't have the power button cable hooked up right. I know I have the motherboard plugged in correctly, because the HSF is spinning. I've tried it without the video card, and still nothing. Maybe I don't have the speaker hooked up right, so I'm not hearing any beeping? This is my first time installing a mobo and CPU in a case, so I'm clueless.

If I have forgotten any important info, let me know. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, I'm stupid. I forgot to plug in the processor power cable. Okay, so now it boots. However, I went into the BIOS, and the processor temp was 80 degrees celcius. Why is it running so hot? The HSF came with cooling stuff on it. Do I need another thermal paste?

Also, I think it showed that the processor was only running at 400 something Mhz when it booted.

w00t! It's actually kinda working!

Make sure there's not a clear plastic protective film on the heat sink over the compound.

a newbie with 3440 posts? crazy

a lot of the time the bios will pre-set a lower fsb than desired and will therefore run lower until you up it. that might solve the 400mhz prob.

80C is very hot for a cpu, youre checking this in the bios? its possible its a busted heat sensor but i doubt it. how did you install the heatsink? how much thermal paste did you use? maybe you should get arctic silver 5, tho i do not think its possible for it to account for that high of a temp. are you sure that the heatsink is resting firmly on top of the cpu? is the heatsink warm to the touch? hot?

The cpu starts to throttle at 61c. id reapply and put on AS5, If its still high, check your airflow and might wanna get a new hsf.
