I just tried my new Teac CD-W512EB for the first time copying audio CD's and it results in a lot of static over the music (on the fly and from hard disk). I am copying from a Sony 48x CD-Rom. I have these questions:
1)Hook up; Instructions recommend (strongly) putting burner on slave to cd-rom, But I read elsewhere to put them on seperate channels, especially for "on the fly".
2)Copy to hard disk or "on the fly", which is better.
3)What is causing the static? Too fast writing, dirty cd (rental from library, but sounds fine when played), same IDE channel. I used the new version of Nero (software settings?), now trying clone cd, but demo only 2x-slooooow.
Thanks

You should save to hard drive then burn from there. You don't want your cdrw on the same channel as your hard drive because it will slow it down, and that is where you should do most of your burning from. You can burn disk to disk on the same channel, but usually not as fast and if you don't have burnproof, I wouldn't recommend pushing it. In nero are you setting it up as an audio cd, or an iso with music files? Try extracting the audio with your cdrw, Sony's are known for poor DAE (digital audio extraction). Nero allows you to swap and prompts you for disk changes.

I've seen it say in a bunch of manuals to have the cd set as a slave to the burner. That would make sense if you were making a cd from a disk image, so that the hd and cd wouldn't be on the same channel. As far as on the fly is concerned, I've generally gotten better results with the cd and burner on separate chanels. But it shouldn't make a tremendous difference.

The static is probably caused during audio extraction, either by the software that couldn't doing a perferct extract, or could be something like CPU usage is already maxed out (not enough time to extract, unlikely though).

I have tried 3 different audio cd's and they all come out with static on top of the music. Iv'e done on the fly and to hard disc, same result. I am using the newest ver of Nero 5.04.
How can I attempt to get rid of this static???? settings??
If I want to make a copy of an audio cd with Nero, do I pick 1)copy cd, or 2)audio cd, or 3)another one? Please Help

For me, I usually rip them and then compress into mp3, but leave the wave file on my disk to burn onto CD's later fo rmixes or just straight "back ups". For my Yamaha, I use the Adaptec software to burn, and the rip/compress I use audio grabber, and sometimes the plugin in winamp to decompress from MP3 back to wave. Never had a problem....(BTW I have a scsi rig.... but yours should be just fine.) And I also agree that you should go from disk to cd.

try extracting your music CDs with your burner instead of your Sony. Also, if you want good quality music, burn at a slower speed.(8X max, 4X preferably)
